Need help on odd problem.

I installed a pioneer DEH-4400HD with a Polk MOMO amp and 2 12" Kickers in my sons Burb. When the key is in the on position everything works and sounds great. When you start the car only the subs work. I tried several chassis grounds and even one going to the battery itself. I also checked voltages with the key in the on position with the car not running and with the car running and very little difference. All read 12-13 volts. I would really appreciate any help.

what year chevy surburban? after 2000 most had a Class II Databus and factory amplifiers that need to be turned on with the HU remote output (not power antenna output).

did you buy the wiring harness for the vehicle or cut factory wiring and splice?

I used a Metra wiring harness. The Burb is an 01 but had an AC Delco head unit not the Bose. Does that have an amp? If so I think you are on to something....

Does it have the onstar mirror. Also did it have a extra harness behind the radio you didn't hook into. some 2001 Chevy's ran the audio system through the onstar and require that the module be powered on in order to have any audio. Try this, look behind the radio, see if there is another long harness that should have a pink wire on it. Jumper the remote wire from the HU to thise pink wire and see if this works

try running the car and give remote output signal from the 12+ and see if that turns it on. if it does then you know its the remote output on the amps that isnt working
the amps don't have remote outputs. the head unit does.

the problem isn't the sub amp not turning on - it is the factory speakers.

yeah i know. i meant for him to do this to check if the remote output coming from the head unit is the culprit.

and by hiim doing this he would figure out if the amp not turning on was the reason his speakers werent playing. BUT according to your posts it sounds like you may have a better idea of whats going on in the car in more detail. i was just throwing some general advice for him to try out. if the problem is anything like what you're mentioning though, then im serve very little usefulness here, cus ive never dealt with this particular car or problem.

good luck to op

no worries. your advice is solid if the amp wasn't turning on.
