Hey Im new to this site. One of my friends refer me to this site. Well to get this going I wanted to know which Subwoofers should I get. I have a 500/1 JL amp and a alpine DHP deck right now with no subwoofers. I was on planning to get a pair of W3v3 of JLs on ebay for around 370 total.. Since college just started Ive decided to think twice about my budget in blowing money on boom instead of books.. So I was wondering should I get the pair of 12w3v3s of JL or would you guys perfer me going something else. Im mainly aiming for SQ.. also I drive a dodge caravan.

If you're not looking to spend as much, why not get a lesser JL?

Two 13w1v2's in a ported enclosure or two 12w1v2's, sound great

To get started, do you have any aftermarket components or is the rest of your sound system stock right now?

Jl's are nice subs, even some W1's would do you justice.

Keep in mind w/ that amp you could only run 250w to each sub, which is plenty for your budget.

And if you have stock speakers, W1's would be even better, or even a single 13W3.

I have all the stock components on my 97 dodge caravan.. they sound like crap you think I should upgrade em? I was wondering if I should go single or dual sub. Is going 1 Sub better SQ? other then that Im not sure if I wanna go any lower then 12w3v3 maybe to 10w3v3 can you tell me whats the difference between 8/10/12/13.5s? I was told 10 has the best clarity and after that is smoother bass. I listen to alot of alternative/rock and oldschool hiphop...

I think I'd run a single 15. This sub is rated at 600 rms so 500rms from your amp should be close enough. I hope those jl amps actually put out 500 like they say at all ohm loads. This sub is designed for solid sq. Should get pretty loud as well.

Depending on the build quality of the sub 12's and 15's can be designed to put out some amazing sq. My current 15" sounds better than any 10" subs I've owned and is louder by quite a bit as well.

Just to give you something to think about - For the $350 or so you were going to spend you could get one 12w6v2 and own one of the best sq subs around. Less than that if you can find it used. I think there are a few for sale on this site's classifieds ad forum.

That 500/1 will power it just right and it will get decently loud. Just don't expect it to blow away your buddies SPL subs.

I wish I had an article to point you towards but there is no proof that a larger cone area results in less accurate bass. Choose your subs based on the sq you are after and fit them to your power on hand and size requirements.
