I drive a single cable s-10 xtreme, currently have 2 - 10" orion dvc's in there. I'm looking to replace them, with something that will give me better bass.

I need to know of the sub that takes the least amount of airflow, because I need the leg room (getting another vehicle is out of the question right now heh).

These subs will be powered with a punch 500.

Thanks

their is not enough depth for a 12 if hes a tall guy or girl like he said i would do a single 10 in a ported box will get pretty dam loud. as for the sub their is alot of good choices. Its trail and error till you find the brand you are happy with.

Thanks for the replies,

Yah, thats the problem....I'm 6'8" and I drive a single cab s-10 (pretty dumb eh?). a 12" is pretty much out of the question, but I wouldn't mind going to 1 -10" sub.

to give you guys an idea about the box sizes i'm using right now they are about this size right here:

http://www.qlogic.ws/2003/products/qenclosures_detail.jsp?classID=55&productID=7179

give a few...take a few of course. I was looking to replace the old orions with two w0's or come compvr's.....these are sealed boxes that I have. I'm open to any brand suggestions at all, or I wouldn't mind just going to one sub.

Thanks

John

Well i'm just a newbie, so i'm not sure.

the amp is a rockford fosgate punch 500.2...it's about 3 years old I think (bought it new)...I grabed these specs from another site on the amp:

Variable 12dB crossover

Variable Punch Bass

High level inputs

2 Channels

#4 Heatsink

RMS Power 4ohms 125x2

RMS Power 2ohms 250x2

RMS Power 4ohms bridged 500x1

as far as a budget goes, it all depends on if I have to get a new box for the 1-10" sub. I'm just basically looking for something that hits hard, but i'm not looking to take it to any type of competitions or anything.

As far as spl or sq...I'm not sure what either of them mean, or the differance in the two. But the sub would be purely for bass, since I have another amp running my other speakers (not sure if that helps).

Thanks

SPL = Sound pressure level = Loudness

SQ = Sound quality = Sounds good

SQL = a perfect mesh of the two

We really need a budget. Say if you have to build or buy a new box for a single 10. How much can you allow for the sub. You can build a ported box for 25-35 dollars or buy one for around 100 or so ( a good one that is made for your setup).

I would say SPL or SQL. (more spl)

As far as a budget on the sub itself I could go to $200. (although cheaper the better)

Thanks

If you just mainly want SPL you could go with a Kicker S10L7. They can be had on ebay for around 130-150 dollars new. Then build or buy the biggest ported enclosure you can fit (probably around 3+ ft^3 tuned to 30+ hertz.....It will wang)!

This may be a dumb question, but is this about the size of a box you were thinking?

If so that will be to big of a box, I know squat about building boxes etc. etc. maybe if you know of a place to buy that exact box size you were talking about you could give me a link.

This one right here would be more realistic, but I wouldn't know where to purchase it at

No that is a sealed prefab box. You will want a ported box for a truck it will be long and skinny to fit behind your seat . There is a guy on this site that builds really awesome boxes at reasonable prices!!! I cant remember his name but i will find out or maybe he or someone who knows of him will chime in...

I cant really think of anything that would get as loud as teh L7s for that price range i can think of some that would sound better and be pretty loud but none that would be as loud as the L7. For kicks you could check out the Resonant engineering SE http://www.respl.com and the Elemental designs e10K and e10o http://www.edesignaudio.com the Resonant Engineering 10 SE would probably get closer to the L7 then the K or O however it would sound a lot better then the L7 in my opinion. If it were me i would get teh RE SE 10 in a dual 2 ohm voice coil config (to make it compatible with your amp) but i am more of an SQ/SQL guy. But for SPL in that price range the L7 will be hard to beat! And if you get a good box and a good install it will sound good too.

sorry to butt in and stuff...but i got a single cab Xtreme...i have 2 10's fockin pounding hard ....they're RE SE's...i suggest getting 1 10" SE (6" mounting depth) and put in a well built ported enclosure...the sub is a 4DVC and its 600wrms and 1000w peak...i have Viper 1200.1 feeding 2 of em...there is nothing that doesnt rattle or vibrate in my truck..even my face gets a little massage on certain songs...haha....naw seriously tho, you will be happy.. good luck man
