need help from the computer guys.

my brother has a dell laptop that he bought about three years ago. now it wont connect to the internet. it can get a wireless signal but it will not get on the internet. i dont really know anything about computers so can somebody help me?

no. like we are at the house. he has also hooked it up to a regular connection. i thinkk you call it an ethernet connection? but both ways it wont get on the internet. it will get a wireless signal but when he tries to get on the internet. could there be a password on the one at his house? i dont live here so i dont really know.

Yeah there could be, but if it won't connect through an ethernet connection either than the problem isn't the protection on the Wi-Fi network.

try disabling the network adaptor and then enabling it.

Could be corrupt or uninstalled drivers. Was this a fresh install after downloading too much pr0n?

Also you can go to tools/internet options/connections/lan settings and make sure the automatically detect settings is checked

Or go to start/run/type in cmd ........... then type in ipconfig /release then type in ipconfig /renew

then while you're still in cmd, type in ping (laptop name) see if it gives you an IP address.

click start in the bottom left hand corner, click the connect to go to show all connections....disable the wireless connections by right clicking on them and clicking disable. Make sure the Local area connection is enabled. Move the cursor over the local area connection, right click and hit status and tell us what it says

you cannot share the same ip address it has to have a router that is plugged in from the IP provider and after that the modem/router is plugged in between the gateway router and the computer, that way the gateway router will hand out IP addresses thru DHCP and each computer will have its own ip addy.
