Need help finding the right setup

I have a Scion tC. I want a subwoofer and an amp. I have about $400 to spend on it. I only want one subwoofer though, because i don't want to take up too much room. I want a setup that you can really feel, but I also want the sound quality to be good. So i guess I'm just asking, what would you suggest for a setup, and what type of box would you suggest(ported, sealed, or bandpass).

Thanks,

Ok, i'll just tell ya'll what i'm thinking about, and we can go from there. At the moment I am looking at a hifonics bx1500d amp and an audiobahn aw1208T subwoofer. I'm guessing i'll need a sealed box. I haven't figured out the dimensions i want yet though. Any advice or suggestions would be nice.

thanks,

exactly how much room do you have? that audiobahn sub has shitty sq and hifonics is overrated. i would recoomend a soundsplinter rl-p 12 and a directed 1500D, in a 1.8 cube box ported tuned to 30 hz.

Sounds solid to me. I'dd tune a little lower, but that's just my preference.

Ok, i just went out and measured and looked at how much room I was willing to give up. Really i'll only be able to give up about 1 cubic foot for the box, maybe a little more. The highest I would possibly be able to go would be about 13 inches unless I removed my spare tire and made some modifications(which i really want to avoid if all possible) Then the width would only be able to be about 13. So if i was gonna go for 1.8 cubic feet, then that length would be long. In other words, that will take up too much room. After I measured, I think i may have to go with a 10 " speaker. A 12 would really be pushing it with only that much room. I would probrally have to go with a sealed box to fit the dimensions. How much difference is there between a 10 and a 12. Like could I get a 10 that still sounds about as good as a 12?

Also, what about Rockford fosgate, kicker, or sony? Do they make any good subs. Yea, i'm pretty sure i'll have to go with a 10 inch. I hope it doesn't make too much difference

The rl-p/directed1500D combo sounds awesome for the price. Im not sure if they make a 10" rl-p, but believe me, that extra half foot of space will really make a big difference. Im not really a fan of sealed enclosures... all that extra output gone to waste.

Those companies do make good stuff. However you said you were on a budget and these companies' good equipment can be rather pricey. SoundSplinter has the best bang...er... boom for the buck right now. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Ok, here are some pics of my car. I'll measure some more tommorow and figure out for sure how much room I'm willing to take up. I really would like a 12, so i'll do my best to find a way to fit one in there and still have space. Some people have removed the spare tire and mounted it like almost level with the floor

I'll try to get pictures of where the back seats are when they are upright tommorow.

Ok, say i get a rl-p/ directed 1500d setup. What is the smallest sealed box that I could get for it? Also, if i get a sealed box with that setup, will I still be able to feel the bass some?

1 cube sealed should work well with the 12" rl-p. you should be able to feel it as these subs can get low and the sealed box will help in that aspect. also you can always play with polyfill in your box.

So I could do 1 cube. Just wondering, when speakers are measured, is it the actual diameter of the cone, or the diameter of the whole speaker? BTW I was just measureing again and I think that I can get up to a 14x14x14 box.
