Need help finding problem

I have 2 brand new Alpine dvc4ohm 12"s in ported box, each chamber has 1.35 volume. amp is hifonics gladiator 1800x1 and subs are wired to 1 ohm. I set gain on amp with DMM to 42.24v and system was not loud at all. headunit volume is 35 of 50 on sony HU.... so I turn up settings on amp to get reading of 52v and i get the sound that I know speakers are capable of peforming but few minutes after playing subs were extremely hot.... is amp just that underated? I have seen videos of people with same system but pushing less watts and seems they are getting way beeter results... subs can handle 1000 rms.... please help this is driving me crazy.... do i need higher powered amp? better HU? big three upgrade? im lost

Which Alpines? ... and they got hot because you was clipping the hell out of them btw..

also all bass settings on HU are at 0.... LP and HP filters on HU are off

I take it you have a prefabbed box... the box is too small... and tuned way wrong..

them subs need 1.7 each tuned around 30-34hz ... screw the specs the factory gives... and you are clipping it because you turned the AMP UP... set your LP on your HU to 120hz ... HP has nothing to do with the sub amp btw... and if you have a sub control for the HU set it at +3-4 or half of whatever the max is... this is not bass boast or any of that.. its to do with the Voltage from the HU to the AMP
