Ok so i have around $500 to spend on a system, i wld like to spend $400 but will go a little higher. So i have been locking at rockford fosgate and alpine subs mostly. I was looking at getting 2 10's or 1 12. I looked at getting 2 10in p2's in a ported box (should i do sealed?) or a 12inch p3, or a 12in type r. I was also looking at planet audio amps. I have no clue what amps to look at or what to stay away from. And should i go with a ported or sealed box. i am a sound quality type of guy. Setup, 2002 intrigue, Memphis components in the front, Memphis 3-way 6x9's, and a pioneer 3200ub deck. If anyone has some suggestions for me on what to get it would be very helpful. Thank you!!!!

Edit: I mostly listen to dubstep (why i want subs), rock, a little rap, and a lot of alternative. I am looking for that bass im lacking, im not looking for a crazy amount of bass, but i mean i want to rattle a little, but sound quality is my biggest thing, it has to sound good.

Would suggest you limit to 1 sub and expand later if desired. You will still need an enclosure and wires. They sneak into a budget. Need to state what you have, what you listen to and what you expect out of the subs.

Two of these (4 ohm svc): SSA Shop - SSA Dcon 12D4 subwoofer300rmsOne of these: WoofersEtc.com - FD 600.1 - ARC Audio 1 Channel 620 Watt Amplifier

It's a hair over your budget, but worth the extra scratch. Sealed enclosure btw...
I'd recommend the same subs(but in D4 coils), but grab a refurb'd Soundstream DTR1.900D for $130 off of ebay to stay within budget. The Dcons work in normal sized boxes, so he can use the same box for better subs later on, and just upgrade power if need be.

The Arc FD is an awfully nice piece of equipment, man.

What about picking up the FD and a couple of the MB Quart RWE 8"s? That'd be nice, right? It'll also give him the option of adding more RWE 8"s later on. He could do four of the 8"s in total.

Remember the kid you and I worked with who bought the RWE 8"s? I haven't heard a single complaint from him...

Can't say I'd go that route.

Can't say I'd go that route.
He said he doesn't want to spend more than $400.

He has an entry-level Pioneer headunit & entry-level Memphis speakers running on h/u power. A single 12'' Dcon ported is more than enough output, 2 would drown out his speakers, as well as budget. I listed a decent amplifier that would give plenty of power to the Dcon, as well as the proper amp install kit. He has a link for an optimum box design for the Dcon, as well as $150 left to build/buy his enclosure, upgrade his Big 3, & deaden his trunk.

It would be an entry-level system....but it would be a COMPLETE system, as well as fit within his budget.

i have a 12" 600watt sub and a ported enclosure that i can let go for $200+ shipping. the sub is an Incriminator Audio lethal injection with duel 4 ohm coils.

Not saying it isn't. But for a budget build I don't see the need to spend $.50 per watt when $.20 or less can easily be had.
You gotta think, thouh, the FD series used to be pretty expensive. The guy'd be getting a high end amplifier for a portion of it's former price. With the FD, he'd have something pretty nice to build around.

It's a quality over quantity thing for me. That's all...

First words he typed: "Ok so i have around $500 to spend on a system, i wld like to spend $400 but will go a little higher.".

You've gotta start somewhere. If he buys something nice to build around it'll pay off for him in the long run.

If you're willing to spend the $500:

One of these: WoofersEtc.com - FD 600.1 - ARC Audio 1 Channel 620 Watt Amplifier ($270)

Three of these: WoofersEtc.com - RWE-202 - MB Quart 8" 300 Watt DVC Subwoofer ($150)

This: 4 Gauge Amplifier Installation Kit ($46)

Building your enclosure will float you a hair over the $500, but you'll have nice equipment that's worthy of building around in the end. Compromises must sometimes be made if you want nice things.

When you get a little more cash you could pick up the Arc FD 2100 ($99), a pair of Crescendo CCX65's ($99) and the extra wiring & such that you'd need.

I think that's a good direction to go in. It's what I'd do if I was in the OP's shoes.
