Hey, im new to the car audio world and i need help choosing some subs and a box. i was thinking of getting a bandpass box. im on a limited budget, around 400 for subs and box.. i was thinking of 2 12's. i heard that the fosgates are good in a sealed box but sound crappy in a bandpass, i know the explods are not exactly good. but what do you think about the explod dvc 12" i went to best buy and talked to a guy there and he said the explods sounded nice in a bandpass box. any suggestions would be great. thanks

i have only attempted to make a box once, and it came out pretty bad. i was going to go to tweeter and have a custom made one done for 100 bux, and as far as the amp.. i dont have one yet

sq is short for sound quality, which is how good the subs sound

spl is short for sound pressure level, which is how loud the subs get (dont have to sound good doing it, but can)

hmmm... ok, I'm probably just confused here, but wouldn't that much power in that size box blow the sub? Here, I'll paste something I read in the Brahma owner's guide thing:
The larger the box, the LESS power is required to reach a given SPL level. The system – box and driver – becomes more efficient. For example, a Brahma 12 in a 1 cubic foot sealed box will reach full Xmax at 1300W at 20 Hz. In a 2 cubic foot sealed box will require around 800W to push full Xmax at 20 Hz. In 2.25 cubic foot ported and tuned to 30 Hz, 500W will reach full Xmax at 20 Hz. Choose your power based upon your application! Too much power doesn’t gain you more output, but can easily destroy your subwoofer.
If you’re not sure how much power you need, ask around, or use a good modeling program like WinISD Pro (not the regular/original version – the Pro version is what we want!) or other accurate modeling tool that shows excursion of the driver, and look at the results. If the excursion breaks 50-55mm peak-to-peak, you’re pushing it too far.
I've been experimenting with WinISD Pro, and according to what it's telling me (or at least how i'm interpretting it) is that in a 3 cu ft box, the sub will reach its full cone excursion with ~650 watts. Am I doing this wrong?
I'd really appreciate it if you could explain this to me, I've been wondering about this for a while now...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/banghead.gif.8606515f668c74f6de0281deb475b6fd.gif

I see... so the advantage of using a larger sealed box would be...louder lower end frequencies? (just an assumption from looking at this chart and comparing.)
