Need help choosing an amp kit

Hey guys, you may remember me from my previous 4 channel amp thread. Anyway, I'm in need of an amp kit. I was originally going to go with this kit from Knu but I might be able to get away with something smaller.

Anyway, I think I should tell you exactly what my system will be comprised of.

Pioneer 880PRS HU

Mach 5 MLI 65 mids, Seas Neo tweeters

Kicker ZX700.5 amplifier

(in the future) either one 10" or 12" sub

As you can imagine, I will be using only one amplifier, the first four channels for the mids/tweets and the fifth to run the future sub mono.

With these parts, what kit would you recommend? I know I can't go too big but if I can do fine with smaller wire and save some money, then I'd like to do that.

I'd also like to order the amp kit from Knu, since I'm going to be ordering a bunch of 16 gauge wire for my tweets and mids in the future anyway.

Their amp kits can be located here: http://www.knukonceptz.com/productMaster.cfm?Category=Amp%20Installation%20Kits

What would you all recommend? What has the best bang for my buck when taking my audio equipment into consideration?

Any replies would be greatly appreciated, thank you very much! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

For that amp, all you need is 4 gauge. The Kollossus Fleks is just about the best wire you can buy (Equal to Kicker Hyperflex) If you don't mind using wire which is significantly less flexible, you can save 1/2 the money and get the KLM kit.

The only reason I suggest getting 1/0 first, is if you eventually plan on upgrading you won't have to redo the wiring.

If that's your first system, you're doing pretty **** good already. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Matt.

Thanks for the response man, I appreciate it. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif Well, yeah, this is technically my first system. The only thing I did in the past was to replace my HU with some JVC unit. And that's it, haha.

Lemme ask just two more questions and I'll be good to go.

1. Would it be possible to determine from my system how much more power I would have to add that would require a 1/0 cable? Or in other words, if I were to get the 4 gauge wire, would I not be allowed to upgrade or buy anything extra? If I could, how much more could I get while still be alright with the 4 gauge power wire?

2. It looks like Knu has two 4 gauge amp kits.

This one: http://www.knukonceptz.com/productDetail.cfm?prodID=KOL-AK4

And this one: http://www.knukonceptz.com/productDetail.cfm?prodID=KLM-K4

The second one is considerably cheaper but they both use different wire so I'm not sure which one I should look into getting. Any advice?

Any more would still be appreciated, thanks!

The one kit is KLM wire the other is the Kolosuss . The kolosuss is more flexible. You should be fine with either one.

Edit: Like he said if you ever plan to upgrade to more power. Just buy the 1/0 kit now.

Just for clarification, what would you guys call upgrading? Getting more stuff such as a second amp or sub, or replacing some equipment I already have like if I wanted to go with new tweeters or mids in the future?

Tougher decision than I thought, haha. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Upgrading as in more powerful amplifiers. 4 gauge can handle up to 150A of sustained current, which equals out to ~1300w @ 12v and 70% efficiency, or 1500w @ 14v and 70% efficiency.

While 1/0 is capable of handling 3000w and 3500w respectively.

If you think you're going to need extremely flexible wire to your install, I would get the fleks. If you think you won't be making any significant turns, then the KLM will probably work just fine.
