Need help choosing a sub for my Galant.

Well, I drove to Kingsport, TN to pick up my new to me 2001 Mitsubishi Galant ES V6. The woman that owned it bought it brand new in '01 so it is in excellent shape, she was very meticulous with it. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

What I already have: The vehicle is already equipped with a Sony HU, and Alpine components powered by a Alpine PDX - 5. Just with this setup without a sub it sounds phenomenal! I lucked out so now I can spend more money on a sub and amp, and I'm ready for some loud bass.

My Goal What I want out of a sub is to be very loud and still sound amazing, low and smooth. Seeing I listen to different types of music. I don't really know if I want 2 12's or a single 15" in a large ported or sealed box. Suggestions on subs and boxes??? I want to do bass race.

Budget I don't want to spend over 2K for the sub and amp combo.

I would probably power it with a Sundown 3000D @ 2 ohms. I want this amp so I have enough power on tap if I decide to switch to an SPL sub. I already know about doing electrical upgrades and I'm in the process of doing that first.

the RLS is a good sub but the only problem is you have to find amp which can have lots of power at 4 ohm. The JBL BPX2200.1 would be my choice for that.

Maybe 2 Fi BL loaded and SAZ3000d would suits you.

A Saz3000d would kill that car.

I've got an 00' Galant, Big 3 and second batt in the back and my AQ2200D makes my lights look like there gonna turn off they dim so bad.

I'd say stick w/ less then 2000w if you want to drive @ night w/o looking like your flashing your lights at ppl.

Also 4cf is about the biggest box your gonna be able to get through that trunk opening. Mabye a little bigger sealed or upfiring.

If you can find 2 12's that will be happy on 1500~2000w and fit in ~4ft^3 you will be happy and so will the car.

2k is good money. If I had that much to spend on Car Audio, I'll just go with JL 13w7 and JL 1000/1 with that JL box. yeah, I know there's people that likes custom and JL haters....I'm not a big fan of JL (cause I think they're over priced) but they do sound sooOOOooo CLEAN. and yes, for the money you can be louder than JL, but SQ wise IDK....

Just because he has 2k too dispense, doesn't mean he shuold buy JL. Money or not, JL Audio products are a rip off, he could get a louder, and omg get this.. "a better sounding" sub stage than that JL package bs.

2 12's ported sounds good for you man. Ported, maybe 32-36hz, ~4^3 ft, 1500-2000 watts and you'll be good.

RE SE's, Phoenix Gold RSD's, FI Q's are just some suggestions.
