Need help choosing a budget job

This is for my girlfriend, she has a '92 Integra LS, so we're working with a hatch.

She's looking to spend $300 dollars, but is kinda flexible but not too flexible.

She's running some lower-end Pioneer HU as it is with 4 Lower-end Pioneer front / rear fill speakers off the HU.

She wants subs, but I was trying to explain that if she spent all $300 dollars on sub(s)/amp then it'd completely destroy the mid-range sound and it'd just be thump-thump-thump... and if I'm gunna ride in it, I don't wanna hear that ish.

So, any ideas?

Maybe a Kicker (I think it's CRX) and an amp to run the mid-range off of?
