SO I just installed my brand new Kenwood X890(sexy deck) and I used a metra wiring harness. Now that I got everything connected and I put it all back together my car is vibrating pretty strong and the RPM's are really down at idle. The car actually cut out the first two times I started it. What could be causing this. Would it be some kind of short?

I really don't have an answer to your question... although a short could possibly be the culprit. try re-wiring the deck and make sure there are no loose connections.

But rock on, Kansas City! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

I would just go over my wiring. Did you by chance jack up the subwoofer output really high, so that you are probably getting voltage drops?

I know on my last setup I occasionally would turn the sub out to +10 on my alpine, and my car would start idling bad. I would turn it back down and it would do it for a little while and then stop, it was due to voltage drops.

No I dont have any subs hooked up yet. Its just all factory speakers. It was a pretty simple instal so I'm baffled by the fact that I'm getting. Never had these on other HU installs

Only thing u changed is ur headunit???

If so, wiringggggggg.

Electrical problems can make cars do weird shit

This is driving me nuts. The only thing I changed is the HU. The deck works fine with no problems at all. Its just the Idling thats killing me. All connections are soldered and wrapped with electrical tape. I'm off to take everything out for the 3rd time. Keep the suggestions coming

Are all loose wires taped up? Pictures would help.

My digicam isnt with me at the moment so I couldnt take any pics but I think I've ruled out the harness. I reconnected the factory stereo and got the same results so now my next suspect is my negative battery post. Keep the suggestions coming and I will keep you guys updated. I'm going to take the battery to O'reilly tomorrow to get tested. This f'n 30 minute HU installation turned into an all night after. Thank god I drive a Solara, you can take the dash apart in less than 5 minutes.

Hey what part of KC you in? I didnt know there were "others" on here

Yea its pretty nice deck but I found that when I was driving to work this morning it was impossible to see in the sunlight. You think if I go to Oreilly that can test out the volts across the battery. For some reason I feel my negative terminal is the culprit.

Okay it looks like crisis averted. My car seems to be back to normal for the most part and isnt idling near as low at it was last night and this morning. I got to play with the deck a little more and I really like it. Only thing is the screen is pretty hard to see in the daytime. To all my fellow Kenwood Excelon owners out there. Have you guys loaded any screensavers into your deck that give you better visibility in the sunlight?
