Hello everyone...this is my first post along with being my first sob box build

Here is my design of what I want to build. I threw it together real quick.

I want to fit 2 10" subs the middle will be an amp rack on the bottom will be my electronics bay.

tell me what you think good bad.....all comments are accepted. the large green rectangles are viewing windows (plexiglass) for the amp rack and elecs...they will be vented with 4 PC fans for the amps and 2 for the elecs

The box will be made of 3/4" mdf and I will be using 1/2" plexi to mount the subs onto...the viewing windows will be 1/4" plexi

I am aiming for .8cuft for each sub enclosure not sure on what subs I am using

This will be a console its not taking up the entire rear bench....it will be about 14" wide

here it is

The subs I am wanting are about 800w rms....I am not sure if 3/4" plexi is neccisarry...I could be wrong..can someone tell me if it will be ok

Each sub mounting surface will be 14"x14"

I will keep this post updated with all cuts I make .

I found a place by me that has cheap glass to. Got me a sheet of 1/2"x24"x24" for $20 so it makes it that much better for me

.8 cu ft. for each sub? Don't you think you could use a tad more? Maybe get rid of the back seat to utilize that volume

if you are going to mount your subs on plexi, i recoment that you go to a metal shop and have them cut you out a circle back plate with drilled holes, plexi that this is trickey to work with, if you dont use a backplate end try to screw through the plexi it will crack and be a waste of money, my suggestion is predrill the plexi hiles use a backplate on the inside of the plexi and use a screw and nut, u can get nice chrome ones at canadian tire and then it will tighten nicely to the plexi

I have always heard that the rule of thumb on plexi is that 1/2 inch is the thinest you would want to use...also working with plexi is a *****. I would definatly look into having a profesional cut the circles and the plexi pannels if you dont have the tools ore experience to cut it.

routing plexi seems **** near impossible.

i wouldnt use standard screws either, but fasteners. 1/2 inch on a piece that is 14x14 is fine, uness you have some 10 inch monsters in there. How are you going to seal the gap between the plexi, and the wood though?

Yeah I have been searching the forums here and I have seen many many people say to use weather striping for the seal and screw it together. so I will be using that route. This design is just in teh drawing phase right now...I can up the cubic footage to 1cuft per enclosure no prob....the metal peice to mount the subs is an excellent idea I will do that but should I also add the weather stripping to that to to seal it...I have a rotozip with a circle cutting jig and all the plexiglass and routing bits for it also, so I think I am good there.

Thanx for the info guys

keep the suggestions coming
