Hey all,

I love this website and all your knowledge! I cant get away from my computer.

Well I currently have been wanting to re-do , if you will, my 83 convertible mustang' system. I gutted all my older equipment (2 10" Boston Pro subs and 2 v12 Alpine amps) and have a basic system that sounds pretty good. Currently I have a Alpine CDA-7894 (older HU) and two Kenwood Excelon kfc-xr601 speakers in each door panel.

(Kenwood - specs)

Top Mount Depth: 2 Inches

Sensitivity: 92 dB

RMS Power Range : 2-45 Watts

Peak Power Handling: 180 Watts

Impedance: 4 Ohm

Frequency response: 35-70000 Hz

Design: 2 Way

Woofer Composition: PBO Pearl-mica poly

Tweeter Composition: HyperNyl

Diameter: 6.5 Inch

Ya I have kids and needed the money at the time. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif

So I am getting the bug back and want to put the Kenwood Excelon speakers in the wifes Dodge Durango. Now I need to find some speakers and amp for my mustang. I had issues with my Kenwoods touching the window when it is all the way down (2" mounting depth). I will build up my panels to fit any speaker needed so I could use your advice. I have read that the Phoenix Gold RSd65cs,RSd6cs and RSd5cs are popular (although they mount at like 2.5 to 2.8"). Should I just use these or can you think of a better option as far as mounting depth?

BTW I really like to have rear speakers being in a convertible I need as much fill as possible.

I dont want to go all crazy with super expensive items and at the same time I certainly dont want cheap! No budget in mind yet

If you want to stay shallow and not build out, I would reccomend the Hertz Space 6 set.

I have the space8 midbasses...and I like them so far. Kind of hollow, but that is to be expected on shallow mids.

The only speaker less than 2' deep that I like are the Critical Mass components... they are super speakers but might be considered expensive by some.

Going with Cerwin Vega V-Max 65 and making a spacer out of MDF would be the best bang for the buck. I think the Cerwins' are 2.25" deep.

Hey thank you for the replies //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

I looked up the Hertz speakers they look nice and shallow but Im thinking of building the bottom of my door panel out with MDF and a lil carpet to fit some deeper speakers. At least I will have more options. I have never heard the Hertz speakers before and only found them on Ebay.

I am currently looking at the speakers you recomended now. The CV V-max is a depth of 2.5 on the website. I think that would make the spacer about 1" away from the panel. I am going to re- measure some of the lower sections of the door to see if I can steal some more space.

What to you all think of the Pioneer REV 6.5 comps? Im just curious because the specs say they go all the way down to like 28hz. Seems like I can get some good base from these sukas. They too are about 2.5" depth.

Any thoughts? I am still researching all recomended speaker makers.

Hertz is an excellent company. I don't buy junk.

They are owned by the same company as Audison, if that helps any.

The revs are very popular....I think they are in the $200 range, which is significantly cheaper than the hertz....another good choice is the prs720s...but that may need about .75" more than the revs.
