I am looking to purchase new component speakers for my car. Here is my current setup..

CDT Audio EF-61NEO

Pioneer 880PRS (yes using ACTIVE setup)

Eclipse EA4100 Amp 75x4.

I bought the neos for space, but ever since I bought them I have been disappointed. So I am looking for an upgrade. Here are my requirements

  • 6.5" ~ Diameter.
  • Depth 2.5". Preferably less. Depends how wide the magnet is as well. Hits window when rolled down.
  • 1" tweeter
  • Work well with 75watts PER speaker.
  • NO more than $300 shipped.

I do not like very harsh tweeters, prefer my tweets laid back. I know I should go to a store and listen, I wish I could, but there is nothing around here worth while, unless I drive 2-3hours to Atlanta.

Since I do not need a crossover, I guess separate midranges and tweeters would be fine as well.

Any advice? Thanks

Went to a local car audio shop and they sold Hertz speakers. The two I could afford from them (can we find online much cheaper?) are:

Hertz Energy ESK 165 $250

Hertz Hi Energy HSK 165 $400

Are these good speakers? Are they worth this kind of money? They have a deep mounting depth but I might be able to fit them, would be able to see before I buy...

Any other opinions?

Thanks

Thats a bit high for that set. Try to get him down to at least $300 if you can. I own a set(just have the mids now), very nice components imo.

I read a lot about how harsh the tweeter of Hertz components .. even if it is HSK ...

I think you should go for Morels (Tempo 6), DLSs(at least R6) and my be you can check the Alpines as well (SPR-17LS) ... Tempo 6 is on the little higher side about power figures... but the sound is, most probably what you are looking for ..

HSK line on up is fine. anything below that line is.

I would look for some speakers that require less power. With 75w you won't push the HSK's to full potential and in trying to you could cause clipping. Elemental Designs makes some good comps that are rated for 65wrms or maybe some Bostons. You could always mix and match using Parts Express or Madisound.

75watt per speaker isnt enough for these? 75watt to the woofers, 75watts (wouldnt) to tweeters each?

I can get them for $360 after tax.
