Hey everyone. I just got 2 12" l7s that im gonna try to build a box for in my saturn ion sedan. kicker recommends a 3.25 cubic box for each sub.. im lookin for spl numbers with some quality mixed in. this is a daily driver car but i still like winnin competitions with it... I will have them hooked up to a kicker 1200.1 in a 1 ohm load as the subs are dual 4. My trunk is stripped out, the old box in my shop and i cant figure out any good box designs.. I do want the subs facing forward with the front of the box sealed from the trunk.. id also like to retain some room in the trunk for a decent looking amp rack so the box cant push all the way to the trunk lid.

The old box demensions are pretty much what i have to deal with.. im thinking out side measurements were 36*18*20 but i could be wrong(ill check tomorrow.)

Ported boxes are my friend, i just have no idea how to plan them correctly.. if yal have any ideas i will deffinatly appreciate it. it sucks not having any bass.

yes it is a trunk car.. those box measurements i listed are about as big as i can go and still have enough room for a amp setup. that design leaves me with 1 foot of room so that i can add batterys or mess with the stock one since the main battery is in my trunk and mess with amps.. and cossovers and all that good junk.. i have bent alot of metal in the trunk out of the way for that old box so i know it cant go much if any bigger.

Do this. It isn't the spl box but it is the medium sized ported. It sounds alot better than the other one and you will get good spl too. Make your box a total of

5.64 cu ft, if you put a divider in it, which I suggest, do each one 2.82 internal. Make your port 2.5" wide, 16.5" long, and 13.25" high. This is for a slot port and came directly from the Kicker Tech Manual for Dealers.

so i just build the box dual chamber.. and port each side? also do you know what the tuning fq. of that box is? and by decent spl.. should i be able to reach a 50 with that box cause that is my goal.. would like to hit a 52 but if i can at least get a 50 i will be happy.. sorry if i sound like a noob.. im still learning.

4.75ft^3 @ 35Hz

if you are making a box solely to compete you will want to tune a lot higher than that, but it's not something anyone can just tell you how to do. you'll have to do quite a bit of testing.

if you're really set on competing and hitting a 150, you probably need another kx1200, a new alt if you don't already have one, and a bigger box. and possibly a different car //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

also, with a small box, 1200W power, and a trunk car there's no way you're going to do 150.

well.. ive hit close to a 150 in it already.. most ive hit was a 148.2 and that was with a 15" l7 with a box that was tuned way too low.. so a 150 in my car is reachable in my opinion and have had many people tell me that it is possible.. and i may get another 1200.1 since i can get one for free from a buddy of mine.. and im getting my alt. rebuilt soon.

ok, that makes sense then.

i think you should really go for a bigger box, bigger port, tune really high

then you should get 150 on the mic easy ( but the high tuning will make it sound bad for daily use).

ok change of plans.. i am gonna try to build this box inside my car.. so i need all open suggestions on how to make this box work.. by building it inside the car, it need to stay the same width and height but i can now move to 30 inches deep. i think this can add alot more spl to the subs so tell me if its worth it or not.. and also what port i should go with now

u r really good at the thing.. i cant ever get it to coroperate with me lol.. it is going to be a task to build this in my car so u got any tips for me.. i know about the 1x1 to get the boards together.. i read that post earlier today(its what got me motivated to build this box into my car..)
