Need Amp Suggestions for 2 12' Type R's

Hey guys, I'm looking for some suggestions for an amp for a pair of 12' Alpine Type R Subs. I'm going to be running these in an 07-08 Avalanche (Haven't found "the" one yet.) I plan on getting it with the upgraded stereo package, DVD/Nav, so I don't want to change the stock headunit, and was just going to get one of those line adapters and tap a set of speaker lines.

I haven't ordered the Subs yet, so I'm looking at suggestions for the kind of amp, and based off its handling capacity, I'll order either 2ohm or 4ohm voice coils, I have a feeling I'll end up with 2ohms though to run at 1ohm.

I'm looking for the best bang for the buck here, so cheap amp = good, but I want it to power something like the Type Rs with ease. I don't care if the thing is fugly, because I'm going to try to hide it somewhere, I really don't want people to even see that my setup is there, only hear it.

Thanks guys!

Sorry man, didn't mean to sound retarded, I've been looking at this stuff all night and I'm not a hardcore stereo guy, just trying to be somewhat knowledgable and not a complete tool.

The numbers are dancing around my head, lol.

The Type-R's are going to perform the best on around 700RMS a piece (from personal experience)

I personally would reccomend no less than 600RMS and no more than 800RMS PER SUB for the type-R's

If you get dual 2 ohm voice coil subs, wire them to a 2 ohm load, and look for an amp that can do around 1200-1400RMS @ 2 ohms, (Kicker 1500.1, for example)

personally, i would get the dual 4 ohm voice coil subs, and find a 1 ohm stable amp. there are MANY 1 ohm stable amps that would be a perfect match for those subs (Sundown 1500.1, Audioque 2200, Rockford 2k, Hifonics 1610d, the list goes on..)

x2 on the ported box. and ya i go with the dual 4s and get a hifonics amp. wire them to 1 ohm. either the 1610D or even the 2010d will get the job done. i had my pair on a hifonics 2008d at 1 ohm with the gain turned down to give them 1500 and they toke it.

lol thanks for the help.

And why no to the sealed box? This is going to be a DD so I was planning on getting a prefabbed midgate replacement box that can accomodate them. I saw that they have ported ones too, but I have no idea what the port is tuned to or anything, and I doubt it would be ideal for the subs because I'm sure alpine reccomends certain specs for a ported box.

If you reccomend going ported I'll give it a shot and see what happens //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

the type-R's do not model nicely in a sealed box. Actually, they model horribly in a sealed box.

Build a midgate box, or have a shop build one. for the cost of the prefab midgates, you can get a custom tuned/ported box for most likely cheaper.

Check out chevyavalanchefanclub.com, there are a ton of examples on their website of midgate boxes that are fully functional, do a search.

there is nothing wrong with prefab sealed boxes, as long as the airspace matches the driver.
The Type-R just does not belong in a sealed enclosure
I meant prefab ported boxes :p //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Ive been trolling that Avalanche forum but haven't signed up yet. Just curious to see what people all do with them.

And honestly, the whole reason I don't want to build my own box is I know my build quality would not be good. I'm a handy guy, and mechanically when it comes to cars I've done engine swaps, built engines, etc.... But a carpenter I am not, and my box would look like @$$ when I'm done and I'm willing to admit it, lol.

And prob is our local guys around here don't build custom stuff like that... they sell all the prefab stuff and just want to install it.

get in touch with somebody on the avalanche forums. The cost of the prefab midgates is ridiculous, you could guarenteed have someone on the forums build you a custom fit gate for a fraction of the cost.

edit: and with the proper box design, it will sound worlds better
