I dont know much about the mtx subs, and Im generally not a big fan. But seems to me one used 8 for two new 12's, is a pretty decent deal.

A new 8l7 is about $125 shipped on ebay. 2 new MTX 5500s are about $150 shipped on ebay. Not enough difference in my opinion to trade unless you'd just rather have 2 12s.

well here in lies the problem one of my8's somehow got all f'd up I had a total of 3 the dude did a ghetto setup so I have 2 dual 2 ohms and one dual 4 ohm one of the dual 2's got messed up and I dont think 2 8's hit hard enough so I am trying to do somethings so I dont have to put any more money in my system

I was looking for a temp fix until I figure out what I want. that is the problem I do not know what I want. I mean I do know what I want I just dont know how to get it. I want the sound I used to have in a system 16 years ago I want a nice tight sub that hits hard but has good sq back in the day I had 4 10" fosgate punch power dvc's

Are the MTXs single or dual 4 ohm? Your Eclipse amp puts out 480 watts at a 2 ohm load. In order for you to get the most out of your amp the subs would need to be single voice coil 4 ohms. If they're dual 4 ohm you can just run 1 of them and wire it to 2 ohms and watch the gains on the amp. The subs are 300 rms each so you'd be underpowering 2 or overpowering 1.
