need advice with stereo purchase

i want a new stereo for my dorm room at my school. i dont need anything TOO fancy but i'd like to have some quality sound for 100-200$. i saw this philips one on ebay for 150, it came with a wireless setup so i could send songs to it from my computer i thought that was kinda cool. but anyways any advice would be nice, space is not an issue.

I have one like this, except mine is the one older than this. They get loud, and sound decent. Not the largest nor the best, but definitely worth the money spent.

haha hey im worried about how it sounds, not how it looks. anyone have any experience with one of these? it plays dvd's has usb ports and everything man it's like a home theater system.

It will sound just like it looks, like shit...build your own stuff, or piece together a couple towers/bookshelfs and a receiver from ebay...

I'd go retro and haunt craigslist for a 1970's Kenwood, Pioneer, or Yamaha stack with the biggest ancient speakers you can find to go with it like a set of Advents or KLH's. When you tire of them you will be able to get your money back. In the meantime it will be total shag rug.

im just gonna take out my car system and put it in my room, then im gonna make a little box to put a car battery in and nail it in there. No one will ever notice and itlll sound sick!

just to let people know (i doubt anyone really cares but information never hurts). I ended up getting a JVC HXd77j off of ebay for 63 dollars and 35 for shipping. The whole unit cost me under 100$ and i have to say i am beyond happy. The output and quality of the unit is incredible. The unit actually advertises an output of 540 total between the two amplifiers. The unit can play any kind of file you can imagine, it plays DVD's, video files, and basically any file that winamp can play. I actually have the main unit connected to my computer with a USB cord and i play music using windows media player and it sounds great coming out of the stereo. Very cool little device it has tons of playability options. Probably one of the best audio purchases ive ever made and perfect for my dorm.
