Ok I've started on my new setup. I just bought some horns (crossfire eh2's) and I'm about to buy some koda 8's. Now I have a few questions.

1) what kind of crossover do I need?

2) Do I need to use a 2channel amp or a 4 channel amp for this front stage setup?

3) Eq, I have an eclipse 8053 witch has a pretty good EQ all ready (10 band, 5 for highs 5 for mids in pro mode) but won't I need an eq which will also have DB octaves for each band? The only thing I can control is "Q" in pro mode, from the PEQ.

4) if you have any other things that need to be mentioned about this setup, please by all means speak up.

thanks.

1) Any 2-way active x-over should do teh job. Everyone seems to like the ones from Audio Control.

2) You can use 2 2-channel amps or a 4-channel for teh front stage.

3) Try the deck's eq's first, if they aren't as flexible as you'd like, then maybe look into an external EQ.

That's a start, should sound pretty nice if you get it in a good installation.

None if you own the 8053 that's in your sig. It has all the necessary xovers built in.

2) Do I need to use a 2channel amp or a 4 channel amp for this front stage setup?
To run active, you'll need 4 channels of amplification. Whether that's two 2-channels or a single 4-channel is up to you.

No, the EQ will also adjust the levels of the selected band. Sounds like someone needs to sit down a spend a little time with the owner's manual //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Or, you are talking about db/oct, which is a term used to describe the slope of the crossover and nothing to do with EQ's.

4) if you have any other things that need to be mentioned about this setup, please by all means speak up.
Not to sound like a dick here; but you didn't know that your deck 1) has a built in crossover, and 2) can adjust the level of each selected frequency on the PEQ/didn't understand the use of the term db/oct. You sure you can handle this install? It's going to be pretty "intense" getting everything set up correctly. And setup wrong; it'll sound horrible.

Also, I don't know much about those horns. More than 5 bands of EQ may be needed on the horns themselves.....just something to think about. You may need an external EQ for the horns alone.

no no no no. I know the deck has built in cross overs, in pro mode it has a cross over that is for a 3 way speaker system. in regular mode it has cross overs for mids and highs.

yes I meant the slope db/octave....but perhaps I still don't understand that. I just need that because won't I need to have slopes on certain ranges, like a 24db octave for 1khz for example.

edit:

I don't think I'll have a problem installing the stuff, but maybe getting it tuned I will.

I can't ask the people around here how to properly use my 8053 because no one has used one. I have read "parts" of the user manual, like for time alignment and that in pro mode the cross over is for a 3 way speaker system.

Plus I am a member of forums for a reason, to learn. You aren't a dick squeak you have helped me a lot (amongst others) I may have just worded the above questions wrong.

And for your setup, you need to use promode. Highpass the horns @ ~1khz and 24db/oct, bandpass for the mids, and lowpass for the sub.

Yes, for the crossover. Nothing to do with the EQ though.

24db/oct describes the slope of the crossover.

Maybe there is a member of this forum in your area?? That would work out nice.

And that's good //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif It's just sometimes people bite off more than they can chew, and end up frustrated instead of enjoying their stereo.
