Need advice on what amp to buy

I have two American Bass DX 12's, and they're rated for 600 watts peak power, but I've heard that two of these can safely handle way more than 1200 watts with no difficulty. I'm trying to find the best possible amp to push these, but I'm new to car audio so my knowledge is limited. I had a 600 watt american bass amp that i had laying around hooked up to these and it was horrible, i couldn't tell if the subs were even on half the time, which makes me believe ill need something in the 1200-2400 range, but again, as you can probably tell, im pretty clueless on the subject, i just want my subs to hit as hard as they can. Any suggestions? Would it be better to stick with the same brand amp or what?

i know all the ab products very well ,you must have had the sq600 if so its not 600 rms .i can sell you a new vfl 1880 which is 1000 rms for 175 shipped

The amp i have now is the sq925. Would the vfl 1880 be the best choice for these subs? That's a better price than i can find anywhere online so its a possibility

pick up the aq 1200 now called the soundqube1200

yes much better amp , your subs are a bit under rated ,but not by that much .dont think i'd throw 1200 + rms at those subs , hence the 1880
