I am looking for a short list (5-10) brands that I should look at when buying an car speaker amp and sub amp. I don't have the money for something like audison, arc audio, etc., but would like to get something better than mainstream brands such as rockford, kicker, jl. etc. Is there any brands that are in between these categories or maybe a mainstream brand that is ahead of the others. Also, does it really make that much of a difference in your music if you say are running a kicker amp vs. an arc audio. Nothing against kicker as I have read great reviews on some of their amps, but would like to know if there is a noticeable difference. Thanks in advance.

Nothing at all wrong with having Kicker or Fosgate amplifiers, and in the right situation, 99/100 people will not know the difference between an Arc amplifier and a Fosgate amplifier, in a blind comparision.

In all honesty, if I compared two amplifiers, and could buy a 'larger' amplifier with the same amount, I am probably going to go with the larger amplifier.

"Headroom is a wonderful thing!" as they say.

Thanks for the replies. I need an speaker amp that can push about 4 x 50 rms and an sub amp that can power an re se or similar 600 watt rms sub. I found an kicker kx600.1 for about $75 that I might use for the sub but are not sure and are stuck on the speaker amp. I would like to get something used and have posted a and wtb ad in that section. Some people have made offers of brands like orion hp4800 (which seems like it would draw alot of power), alpine (which I've heard mixed reviews about, cadence (seems alright but maybe cheap), but nothing that really made me think it's great. If I get the kicker amp, I would spend around $100-150 dollars on the speaker amp and if I don't I would like to keeps both amps at total of less than 250. This is not that much, which is why I am trying to find them used and a good deal. Part of me though is thinking along the lines of what loud3 said and just try to find a good name brand cheap with alot of power. I have seen a kicker kx350.4 for about 70 online and might just go kicker all the way. The only reason I am hesitant with this is that I don't want too much distortion and have heard these amps could produce that.
