ground it first, then use the resistor that came with it, and put it inline of the positive terminal of the capacitor and the positive lead from the battery. Although you have a 20v capacitor, it really isnt necessary to charge it with the resistor, but its better to be safe. I usually charge em for 10-15 minutes, that seems to do the trick. I actually use a test light, so I can see when it is fully charged.

That is the great thing about Maestro products, they are very thorough. Downside is the price tag.
