Need a Fast Battery

Just installed my HO alt, and it dishes out the powah.... but there is a quick dimming of my lights, before the alt can power the amp fully. Maybe 1/10 of a second, and only in transients. I just don't want my volts to smoke my amp due to a momentary voltage dip.

I'm pretty convinced that it happens because of the reaction time of the alt, along with the length wire back to the amp. Solution: Battery in the back.

What is the best choice of 2nd battery for my situation?

I was thinking a BatCap, but if a Deka Intimidator or YellowTop would be fast enough, I'd like the ability to demo or listen to music with the car off occasionally.

Thanks in advance, guys.

Chris

Full burp, with a light clip, gets the amp voltage down to 11.8 V. I thought a HO alt would keep it up better than that. It's still much better than stock, but I have to wonder what the bottleneck is. Alt, Bat, ground, etc.

You shouldnt' be dropping that much based on the equipment in your sig...1500 watts off a 200 amp alt, yellowtop, and big3? I'm running more than that off my 80 amp alt :p.
according to your sig,

you gotz a 2nd battery in the back. I'm curious if that's the remedy, or if my symptoms are from some other illness.

Nah, it's a tinnny battery that barely does anything (18ah is smaller than a kinetik hc600).

I drop to 11.5 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif. Trying to get another battery in the trunk soon though.

How old is your yellowtop? You might want to have it load tested to make sure its ok.

It will help to get a 2nd batt in back, but you shouldn't be seeing that drastic of a drop with your current equipment IMO.

Also, some HO alts produce less power than stock ones at idle, so that might be something to think about.

Supposedly 130 @ idle, and DC is decent about their ratings. I'll do some trouble shooting, to find the bottleneck.

Could be amp ground or power wire's ring terminal... both are good, but not great.

Even if these were bad, it wouldn't dim the interior lights as well... sounds like a YellowTop bottleneck. Just my 2 cents...
