my friend has a neon thats about 5 or 6 years old and he had a durabrand radio in it which played ok and there wasnt really that much distortion. so he buys a jvc unit of another one of my friends and they said that when they took the jvc out it was working fine but when i went and hooked it up in my friends neon it cut on but would only play for a few seconds at a time and when it did it sounded like crap. I said it was the jvc that was screwed up somehow but they believe its the stock speaker wires that are screwing up. and i dont really see how that could be if the other radio plays fine. the only other explanation i can think of is his wiring harness is messed up cause he left it out over night and the dew got on it and some rust spots developed. ???????
