Nascar Renames Cup ... again

Ummm, think I would have disagree with that statement there bro - filled nightly, depends on who is playing and where. I've been to a few Wizards games and the stadium was at max 60% full and just because it is on tv doesn't mean everyone is watching it either. Nascar runs for 36 weeks, Fox CBS and ESPN fight for coverage of the races and believe me they pay a pretty penny for it, more than say a regular season football game. In football, baseball and nba - if your team is struggeling you will find the stadiums 50% full, in Nascar it doesn't matter the track is always full of fans.
Detroit, Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, Dallas, Salt Lake City, Cleveland, Boston etc. are regularly filled to capacity on a nightly basis. New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Detroit, Boston are all top 11 markets and are all operating near full capacity, so the league is banking good revenue with just these markets alone. Plus merchandise sales. I will bet more people buy NBA jersey's then whatever the hell NASCAR sells.

Look at the number of people in these cities. They are all amongst the heaviest populated in the US. And on the average night there isn't shiat to do. Nascar is the fastest growing sport in our country wether you DEMOCRATS like it or not. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Obviously you've never been to a NASCAR race, nor seen one on tv.

180,000+ people at each event, 99% of them wearing some type of NASCAR clothing item. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Then there's collectibles such as posters, die cast cars, etc.

Not including the people that are just out there tailgaiting. So the number is probably closer to 250,000.

No point in arguing with someone who is ignorant....

Ok for the few race fans on here we all grew up listening to the "Winston Cup" series and here a few years back they changed over the Nextel cup, and just as we got used to hearing that its now the Sprint Cup
I think its going to cause nothing but confusion considering there is an entire branch of racing called sprint car racing....

/rant
the only people its going to confuse are the people that are entertained by heavy cars going around in circles on the television //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif

I don't watch NASCAR either, I find it boring. However, I do know that it is one hell of a cash cow. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

i wont argue with you on that at all. they make ALOT of money off of it... and every time one of the races comes to charlotte, if i get a chance to go for free, i will drop all my other plans to go. its fun to go in person. but i have a VERY hard time calling it racing, or exciting to watch on tv...

and there is no doubting the demographic that they reach too... i will stand by my statement about who will be confused by the name change, and i believe that will be about 90% of nascar die hards.

oh yeah, and if anyone DIDNT see this name change coming, you are either way out of the loop on currrent events, or an idiot.

nextel isnt even around anymore... and soon, the entire direct connect concept wont be either.

oh i understand, just saying they could have changed it to something other than sprint cup, thats all

is california part of this redneck south?
Dover maryland?

And you call me a dumb redneck? At least when I don't know something I don't act like I do.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
Lest we forget about las vegas, milwaukee, indianapolis, miami, ohio, phoenix, etc.

And yes, I got these tracks off nascar.com. I don't follow the races, but I knew there were just as many tracks in the "north".

Wow, going through the stats of each track I just noticed that indianapolis SEATS 250,000! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif

Off day tommy?
I don't consider miami as part of the "south", if you catch my drift. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

It's not so much a geographical location as it is a demographic.

Phoenix and las vegas aren't exactly in the north either. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
