That's true, but wouldn't s&h push the Warden over $1k? The TC LMS Ultra 5400 was $1k+ until recently, but it's now cheaper than buying a 13" W7 from Crutchfield too.

I've thought this over a little more now.

The CM UL12 is $1k+ (if it's even in production these days)

The AA SMD is $1k+ (at least I've been told it is)

The JL Audio 13W7 is $1k+ from certain authorized dealers

The 21" Warden is close to $1k after s&h

I guess the DDZ models are $1k+

I guess the DD 9500 series can get real close to $1k if you like cf cones & caps

sure, the big brands make decent products, and even some quality products (Solo X, t4000.1 etc...), however, these items are very high and as stated you can get comparable or better for cheaper...for subs, ive had Memphis M3 (loved it) CVRs (loud but sounded like shit) and Lanzar ST (crap) from the "big companies"...the stuff I have had from smaller companies, Treo, Kove among others, have been better than all of the big brands. I wont go into amps, because I have had too many. While the Hifonics amp I currently have is the strongest, it is not the best amp I have ever had. That distinction goes to an old school fosgate...

Can we consider DD mainstream? I mean, they aren't available everywhere, but anyone that knows shit about car audio is well aware of the company. Does that make them mainstream? If we can consider them mainstream, the "big" brands are responsible for the majority of the $1k+ subwoofers.

amps? well, i know one common company thats bashed for overpriced amps is JL, but truth be told, the slash series are **** good amps. I wouldnt pay msrp for one, but I wouldnt mind having a 1000/1...Memphis amps at msrp are **** expensive as well, but they are pretty solid
