n00b impedance question.

As implied by the title, I'm totally new to this stuff.

The question is, if I have an amp that's rated as stable to 2 ohms, but try to run a 1-ohm load on it, what will happen? Does the amp just go into protect mode, or will I cause serious damage to something?

I don't have the money to buy a more powerful amp, but would like a bit more power for my subs...

Depends on the amp.

It might go into protection and shut down, it might go poof. It might run just fine.

What amp are we talking about here?

if it has a protect mode, it should go into protect right away, if not, it will blow if you use it like that for any period of time.

Kicker I had would go into protect. Elemental Designs went poof, like so.

Reccomendation: Don't try it.
