hi

im wondering what is the difference between these 2 same model Soundstream amps??

i went onto realmofexcursion.com and looked in the "amp guts" section. i found this pic of the insides of the Soundstream Rubicon 604 :

then i opened up my own Soundstream Ribicon 604 and seen one thing different :

i have 2 questions for you guys:

1. what is the part that is missing called in the first photo? i have that part on my amp, but that amp doesnt have it at all. i highlighted the part i mean

2. is there a diference? and is there a difference in performance between having and not having that part? im not too fmailiar with am internals, sorry

i know Soundstream had a 2nd generation Rubicon 604, but it has a different shaped heatsink etc. however, these 2 models look exactly the same except for that part, so it made me curious

thanks

Those amps have ALOT more difference that just that.

1) The first amp doesn't appear to have any bolts on the board which are what hold the transistors against the heatsink for dissipation. It has the holes but no bolts.

2) The first amp has no small riser cards in between the two banks of transistors on the left side.

3) The first amp seems to have only two caps instead of four in the bank next to the main torroid.

4) The amps use different brand and/or grade caps all over the board -- black vs. gold.

I would say Jim is probably right. Looks like it was partially disassembled for repair and may also be a different revision as you said.

oh, yeah i see the difference now, thx

does anyone know if the different color caps mean any differences between amps, like quality or versions?

Different manufacturers use different color electrolytics, but they're not like resistors in that way - different colors don't mean anything. A 220uF and 220mF cap might have the same black color, just differ in size.

reaon im asking is because i read there are2 versions of the 604 model. so i wanted to verify mine is the original, 1st gen. model. im not sure which internal parts were different between the 2 gens.?

Have to agree also or being used as spare parts. But yes that is a version 1 of the Rubicon 604, just missing a few parts. If you followed everything I said you should have Version 1 of the Rubicon.

If your looks anything like this, version 1
