I recently bought two ultamite sound TS104DVC dual voice coil 10" subwoofers. My problem is that the subs only say the peak power rating (400W) on the back of them and as i understand it RMS is the power rating I should be concerned about to match an amp up to the subs. I have tried to find the rms rating myself but since the subs are second hand and a couple years old i can't seem to find anything. I was wondering if someone would be able to tell me how i can get this info or even supply me this info. Thanx

Rms is usually about half of peak btw, most likely around 150-200 each...

This isn't ALWAYS true. Sometime the rated RMS is much lower than the max.

My max is 1000 but my rated is 250.

Each subs rms is most likely 150-200 rms being that 400 is peak . An amp that puts out 400-500 watts would be just fine . From the model # you have listed im assuming the subs have 4 ohm voicecoils so you would want an amp that puts out that power at either 4 or 1 ohm .

I got them for $100 in a bassworks box. i hooked the subs up to the amp i'm running on the system in my truck and they sounded very good from what i could tell.

Yeah ive seen some subs that will be 5000 max like jbl gti 15" and it is only like 800 rms wtf is up with that??

It depends on what a company considers as "max" power. Some companies will rate this figure based on a quick musical transient while others may rate it by the peak power of a sine wave. That is why the rms figure is much more applicable but even then, there is no standard as what the power handling of a speaker is.
