eh im at work right now at an army base, so I dont have time for a long thread, but here is a teaser pic
Thats me sitting on the big red thing, .... which happens to be a 10TeV dipole cryogenic superconducting particle accelerator beam line //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif The big white wire spool is actually superconducting niobium/titanium wire. The big brown building in the bottom of the pic is the facility, mostly unmarked and out in a texas pasture and the size of 3 football fields end to end.

I work in a research lab for Pulsed Power and Power Electronics at Texas Tech University; we do alot of research funded by defense agences, the Department of Defense, and Nasa, to name a few. Pretty cool alot of the projects I get to seen being worked upon; me and my team are working on a DC-DC converted that will output 60kV continuously from a 650V source; it's primary function would be powering lasers on planes.

Pretty much all the work we do will go into some sort of military weapon in the future. Being able to difuse IED's remotely, wiping out an entire building of electronics and people without damaging the infrastructure of the building at all, etc.

I guess im not worried because I didnt show anything real super specific...but yeah, im sure you know whats what if you're even slightly knowledgeable on the equipment it takes to produce such devices.. ok here are a few more pics, then I gotta go.

superconductor wire winding table, running cable around the center mandrel of the accelerator beam pole. The wire is white because its sheathed in fiberfrax, which is actually crystal fiber (similar in texture to fiberglass, but can withstand 10x more heat and pressure). This is to insure no coil winding short circuits will occur after high temp/pressure epoxy injection.

Thats me building my prototype ultrasonic deionized water cleaning system for the niobium/titanium wire. I had to come up with a way to clean the starch out of the fiberfrax before the wire is wound onto the coil and baked...otherwise starch at high temps turns to carbon, which is a conductor...and we all know that a conductor is a poor insulator //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif
