I was working in Oak Ridge near the Y-12 plant. Me and a couple of co-workers were riding around at lunch and we go down a small road and come to a guard shack on the outside of a 10ft fence. 2 MP's come out guns in hand and point us back the way came, not in a friendly way either. How we missed the big sign that said "U.S. Government Restricted Area DO NOT ENTER violators will be prosecuted" is beyond me.how do you know?
nice spot btw, good luck digging it out. watch out for the law though.
There are lots of places you can't go around there. I've been with my dad a couple of time delivering fork trucks to the Y-12 and K-25 plant There are so many building around there it's hard to tell what is what if your not familiar. The K-25(where they diffuse uranium) is a huge plant. It's bigger than the shopping mall near my house. You have to have your own ORNL ID to get through the front gate, then you have to show ID at the door and sign in, then another ID check when you make it to the warehouse(sign) followed by a couple of pages of paperwork just to deliver a **** fork truck. Then do that all over again to leave.....do you ever wonder what's in the big green train cars that have no markings rolling through on the train tracks lol.....Don't get near it.
There is also a place in Morgan Co. not far from Oak Ridge that is restricted, I have no Idea what that place is but I know you can't get in. I saw a huge satellite looking thing being delivered there once. Whatever it was, was so heavy the asphalt was cracked from the truck driving on it.
If you want a job cleaning radioactive machines with 100% mean green K-25 starts you out at $15 with no experience. You pretty much have to know someone to get you on though. Alot of familys works there. By 1 year you should be close $20 an hour. Plus you get your own doctor....everyday. One thing I never understood was when you work there you suit up your whole body except your face then they give you a clear face shield the goes on like a hardhat. Your face still exposed to the air. You tape up around your ankles and your wrists. I never understood that. They test you everyday to see how much radiation you've been exposed to. Anyway I'm rambling.........
