i had a jl audio xd600/1 amplifier and a 3w2 sub professionally installed about four years ago. the system worked great until about six months ago my sub started to cut out at random times at no particular volume level. sometimes it would do it once a month for a short time or for a whole week. when it worked it sounded fine. when it was about to cut out a lot of the time it would pop a bit and cut out. if i hit the box it would skip on and cut out again. sometimes it would just start working fine again if i hit it hard enough for a while. one day it cut out and wouldn't come back on. so i bought a new sub. same amp but i bought a 6w3v3. ive only had the 6w3v3 for about two months. the sub has worked great until about a week ago. i heard that familiar popping sound one day last week. then today on my way to work it started cutting in and out again. the original sub was used and abused for 4 years and took it until about 6 months ago. the new sub i have been pretty easy on and only seems to have worked properly for a couple months. sound solutions ( the place i bought the equipment and got the install from) said the first speaker probably had a burnt coil. they put some kind of tester on it and said it worked fine but they did mention the burnt coil. thats all i have to go on so far.
