My subs are acting different.

Hey guys, I just installed my system into the new car. And my subs seem to bottom out easy.

I don't know what the problem is because it worked perfectly in my old car with the same settings on everything. Also it sounded louder. I thought the loudness would of increased because now I have a hatchback.

You guys have any ideas?

thanks.

To the rear. I thought it may be the subs are unloading because there is no back pressure. Because I had the box in a trunk before.

Trying to determine your problem. A "lot of experience" people on here so someone should figure it out soon. Provide more info on amp and subs your using and give details of the rundown on your system...it'd help more.

Ok, I'm just running the Jbl gto1201.1ii right now. With two Phoenix Gold Rsdc 10" subs. A pioneer 880prs HU. Also before I put in the Head unit, I tried a line out converter with the factory deck. It had the same problem with bottoming out the subs but was easier to do.

So I thought it was just the loc and installed the deck but it does the same thing but it is better and not bottoming out as much.

i'm really leaning toward phase on this one. double check that twice. also in my hatchback subs up hits harder and lower with back hitting cleaner, tighter bass.
So it hits harder with subs pointed to the roof?. I was thinking of making a new ported enclosure that does subs up, port back.

They may have been bottoming out and you couldn't hear it in the trunk.

On a separate note, you should always try reversing phase on a new install. And yes, this is a new install. By reversing phase, I mean in relation to the other speakers in the system, not to each other. More cone motion, or the same cone motion, but less perceived volume/intensity usually means phase problems, or cancellation. Moving the subs around to adjust their distance from the hatch or rear wall, and trying different firing directions, may help as well.

These comments point towards a gain setting error.

the gain is about a 1/4 way up on the amp. It goes up to 6volts to 75mv.
1/4 of the way up does not tell us you set it correctly, even though you went the extra step and defined your gain range for us (nice thinking btw). We dont know, for example, what volume setting you used to adjust the gains versus what you listen at. Either use a DMM, or set them by ear using the tutorial on this forum. I recommend the latter.

yeah I set it by ear in the old car. First I did dmm. But I switched the HU to the 880prs then adjusted the gain by ear. I had the gain matched with the head unit at volume 45. So the amp put out full power at 45.

Now the sub bottoms out on some songs at volume 30. I never had this problem in my old car.

I was also thinking it may be the box because I went with out bass for awhile and had the box in my house. I have to check to make sure it ain't leaking air from anywhere. I'm going to check the ports first. They are external ports. Would air leaking out cause the problem?
