My subs are acting different.

I'm thinking it may just be low bass notes maxing out the subs. Like the bass goes nice then all of a sudden they just make a popping sound. Like it doesn't sound good. It was really bad with the loc though. Seems like they were just losing control and hear them distort.

Wouldn't it not make a difference anyway if I turn the gain straight down? Because I will just turn the volume up more then 45. I had it set before at 62. Pretty much adjusted the gain so I don't have to turn the volume knob a million times. I will try tomorrow on the gain. I will just turn it straight down and see what happens.

Just had another idea. Maybe its the voltage going to the amp. Like its a lower voltage so therefore its less power going to the sub and sounding quieter. But when I turn it up to where the gain is matched at before. The voltage is lower so therefore it clips the amp and makes it sound just as loud but its clipping.

On the old car I had the big 3 done in 1/0. I haven't done the big 3 on this new car yet. I might be just not getting as much power to the subs like I did before.

I had this same typr of problem before, the only way i solved it was to go with all new equipment. Never did figure out the problem but it was gone with new HU, AMP, SUBS, BOX. good luck dude, I feel your pain.

I have the amp grounded to a factory ground I found with many other things grounded to it. Don't know if that helps.

I have considered a low voltage/clipping problem. But, that would not explain lower perceived volume from the speakers. You seem to have two problems that contradict each other, and none of the usual fixes do anything. So I guess, yes try a better grounding point, do the big 3, and see what happens.

I dont think you are bullshitting, no offense meant by that comment, was simply listing the possibilities given the situation.

Well, I did get it just as loud yesterday. But the subs bottomed out doing it.

I'll try the big 3 after work. It made a big difference on my old car. More bass in the old one. Negative to chassis on the old car made a huge difference in loudness.

I think the problem is fixed.

Whats the biggest subs you guys think that will work good in my hatch? Its about 39" wide. Top of back seat headrest to the curve at the back, depth is about 18-19". Depends on how high you go from the floor. Floor to the back of the headrest is 16.5-17".

Thanks for the options. I wanted to do 2 18's or 15's. But now it looks quite small my hatch with the dimensions. I wanted to try and get a 150, but it looks like it will tough. I was thinking two SSA Xcons off a sundown 3500.

I just put dimensions into bassbox pro. I used 16.5" height, 39" width, 18" depth. Says it 6.703 cuft. without any displacement.

I had a thread about this a few months ago. Subs did fine facing up, but when I faced them forward, and maxed out my amp... they unloaded and got floppy.

Concensus was:

1) box to big

2) funky cabin dynamics

3) odd amp response to clipping

No real resolution was found, but I can say that swapping amps and keeping my subs up, fixed the problem (bypassed the problem rather)
