My solution to end illegal immigration

For the record most Mexicans do pay taxes only to never reap the returns. Here is a point. I have a friend who is an installer and has been here since he was 2 years old. He is ILLEGAL! He pays taxes and works like the rest of us. If he gets caught he is going back to Mexico where he has never been before. What are your thoughts on that fellas? You would never ever talk to him and think he is illegal, he cant get a drivers license, and is actually been to college and currently is a nurse and is continuing his education to become a doctor. Here is the kicker, he cant get a job as a nurse or a doctor in the future because he is ILLEGAL!
If he can't be a nurse or a doctor, then how is he a nurse and why is he studying to be a doctor? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

Say he did get deported some day. I'm sure he would rather be highly educated to open up opportunities elsewhere than go back with no education and be back to absolute square 1. Either that or he isn't looking at the long road and not worrying about possible road blocks.

...thats just my guess

I'd like to see a peer reviewed journal article that would agree with that.
From my reading it shows that labor isn't the most expensive aspect of produce, ontop of that a good portion of labor is legal or family based in agriculture as well. I have not dug into my sources much though to be honest.

Its not just Mexicans. The saying is pretty much true, the hardest workers get paid the least.
Not all Americans are lazy, many do the same jobs that some illegals do.

Anybody that takes advantage of the system should be brought to justice, illegals and your so called "lazy *** Americans that fake an injury"

I would argue that rents agriable land and opportunity costs cause signifcant impacts on the prices of produce.

I don't think snova understands how chinese agriculture can produce and ship some produce, such as broccoli cheaper than an illegal immigrant in America.

Furthermore, PRODUCTIVITY is 1000000000000x more the most important thing in determining costs. Wage is determined by the marginal product of labor.

I don't think so.
Financial Analysts who do M&A work make around $36k who work 80 hour work weeks work just as hard as those folks in the fields.
Perspective man, you don't think others in the same industry (Finance) work less and get paid more than 36k/yr?

and yes, there will always be exceptions to the more work less pay gig, I realize that.

Of course, but wouldn't that disprove your point.

People act like working in the fields is the hardest work there is...some people work with their minds....and that is tough as well.

Agree with you there. My job is 100% mental stress, to the point it causes physical problems sometimes. Both physical and mental jobs are "Hard Jobs" //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

In all seriousness, the only way to ensure illegal immigrants are out of the workforce is to make it more profitable to hire legal help. Wages would have to increase to provide an incentive for people to work the fields or perhaps...

But this may not be all that bad. If agriculture has to compete with say factories for Labor and the labor pool is insufficent, it may encourage large scale farmers to invest in automation and technology (factors of production in which America has excess supply)...the factories that produce such innovations employ American workers (as the US holds a comparative advantage in most capital intensive goods).

Y'all are missing the point. Prices would be lower because the mexicans are being forced to work for free and cannot go back to mexico. it's really glorious if you think about it.

I wonder what would be the outcome if you started saying every business found with an illegal working is fined $10,000 per instance, it would probably put a lot of small businesses out of business in the beginning but those business owners don't follow the law in the first place so I don't have much sympathy for them.

I do wonder what the other ramifications would be though.

My though would be ship his illegal *** back to mexico por favor!
But that is expensive and doesn't work.

Reducing the demand for illegal labor is the only way. They come here because of the demand, not because they like the climate.

Furthermore, what people don't explain is that illegal labor is not nearly as productive as legal American labor. For instance, Nissan has plants in both Mexico and TN. The TN plants produce more cars than the Mexican plant. The problem is the supply of GOOD MEXICAN FACTORY workers is low. Some of the important factors in GOOD FACTORY workers is time spent on the job. A person working the line for 10 years is typically more effecient than a worker working for 10 months....Nissan is discovering that few Mexicans are willing to stay at the factory for years and years. This turnover becomes expensive as it is costly to acquire and train new workers. Furthermore, it is expensive to compete over high quality workers.
