A huge increase in produce prices wouldn't happen:

Dr. Philip Martin, a leading academic authority on agricultural labor, notes that American consumers now spend more on alcoholic beverages on average than they spend on fresh fruits and vegetables.1
An average household currently spends about $370 per year on fruits and vegetables. If curtailing illegal alien agricultural labor caused tighter labor conditions and a 40 percent increase in wages, the increased cost to the American family would be $9 a year, or about 2.4 cents per day. Yet for the farm laborer, the change would mean an increase in earnings from $8,800 to $12,350 for each 1,000 hours of work (25 weeks if the worker worked 40-hour weeks). That increase would move the worker from beneath the federal poverty line to above it. 2

According to Dr. Martin, "…consumers who pay $1 for a pound of apples, or $1 for a head of lettuce, are giving 16 to 19 cents to the farmer and 5 to 6 cents to the farm worker." 3 Therefore, a 40 percent increase in the 5 to 6 cents a pound that the farm worker receives would amount to an increase of about 2 cents per pound that would probably be passed on to the consumer.

Although this recent finding about agricultural labor and produce costs may not have been known by those making the alarmist statements about rising market costs, they certainly should have known better on the basis of earlier studies. For example, in 1996 the Center for Immigration Studies published a study by another academic expert that reported similar results.4 That study found that, "The removal of illegal workers from the seasonal agricultural workforce would increase the summer-fall supermarket prices of fresh fruits and vegetables by about 6 percent in the short run and 3 percent in the intermediate term. During the winter-spring seasons, prices would rise more than 3 percent in the short term and less then 2 percent in the intermediate term." 5

So, the problem is that illegals are coming here, working for cheap, living like 20 to a house and sending their money to Mexico, all the while taking advantage of our tax-supported services. Oh what shall we do?
Simple. Keep 'em all here, and have Congress pass a law that illegalizes the payment of illegal aliens for work. Farmers will no longer have to pay the illegals, and get to keep them as a source of free labor. Runaway Mexicans can be treated like runaway slaves in the pre-Civil War era. They will be chained up at night, and if they try to run during the day, their owner can sic his dogs on him.

That way, no more messicans will want to cross the border.

The glory of the slavery era can return!

also i am sure the illegals wont mind paying for taxes, shit i am pretty **** sure they will sign up in a heartbeat. i do agree that they something needs to be done for this world to be better. if every illegal started paying taxes, that will help out the economy so much, that it would be insane.

Its not just Mexicans. The saying is pretty much true, the hardest workers get paid the least.
Not all Americans are lazy, many do the same jobs that some illegals do.

true, thats why i used American instead of white people or black people lol, i am Mexican but born and raised here. So i agree with you 100%, i do not like to generalize race unlike some people. Any American (black, white, brown, yellow) should be punished for taking advantage of our monies lol.

For the record most Mexicans do pay taxes only to never reap the returns. Here is a point. I have a friend who is an installer and has been here since he was 2 years old. He is ILLEGAL! He pays taxes and works like the rest of us. If he gets caught he is going back to Mexico where he has never been before. What are your thoughts on that fellas? You would never ever talk to him and think he is illegal, he cant get a drivers license, and is actually been to college and currently is a nurse and is continuing his education to become a doctor. Here is the kicker, he cant get a job as a nurse or a doctor in the future because he is ILLEGAL!

Been there and done that, I personally am in the same situation actually, my girlfriend is illegal. We are in the process of trying to get here legal but know there is only a 1% if that chance of that happening. Listen my salary is well into six figures and I didnt mention that to be cocky, my point is she doesnt even need to work and be a burden on ANY tax payer. She paid for her education here which consist of a GED because that is the only thing she can get, taught herself English, she truly is one of the smartest people I know. With my income and her desire and intelligence we only have a 1% chance of her becoming legal. Anyone that thinks becoming legal is easy knows nothing about it. before you go with "marry her", that means absolutley nothing to the US govt. I know families where one of the spouses was illegal and tried to get legal and they got sent back to Mexico and they had 4 kids! Now the wife had no choice but to go on welfare and he is trying to figure out how to get back accross to support his family....illegally!

That absolutely sucks man, but did his parents come here just right after the 1986 amnesty, or when did they illegally immigrate here? Also see below, he could have applied for papers a long time ago and been through the process well before now. Not my problem he hasn't done so. I agree though, there are some people that didn't choose to come here that are getting screwed, but their parents are the ones to blame, no one else.

Also, the amount of money illegals pay into taxes is wayyy less than the amount that illegals leach from tax based services. Maybe not true for this guy, but for the group its a net loss to the legal taxpayers of this country.

That sucks man, a couple years earlier and he'd a been clear. I understand the hardship and it does ****, but I, nor any other person in this country forced anybody to come here illegally....well except maybe some scumbag employers.

You can say our broken/flawed immigration policies force people to come here illegally but that is untrue. It is a personal choice on the individual or their parents to break the law to come here, or to overstay a visa, etc.

I agree we have some crap policies in many regards but if a person chooses to break the law they have to accept the consequences if they someday catch up to them.
