My Rainbow Powerline CS 275.27 thread

You know my thoughts, but hardly listen anyway. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif
//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
Indeed. I wish I could afford what I wanted. I spent my wad on these Powerlines. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif And I do listen, just no bottomless wallet these days. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

How long until you get some power to them? I'm waiting on a price may use these in an active set up (or 6x9 subs with Germs playin mids). But these look like they could handle it all and I could keep a stock look.
(BTW Don you get my PM?)
Depends on if they can handle the power of the ZX850.4 or I need to get the ZX650.4. I could get the ZX650.4 now, not sure about the ZX850.4 due to the seller. I will def let you know though.

kross, I appreciate the information. I stopped buying on the internet after a $790 mix up that I had to file a claim and jump through hoops to fix. Paypal was awesome though. I ended up getting all the money back. Outside of a private sale from someone with lots of references and dealer direct, I just don't trust online dealers. The lack of a factory warranty bugs me as well. Again, I do appreciate the information though. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Hey John dont you also have a 5th gen? Educate this n00b how they fit. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
Correct, they do fit but it does require a bit of...lets say persuasion (i.e. 3 extra screws holding each door panel in so everything doesnt come bursting out //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif ) lets say the clips dont hold it all in too well.

The crossovers are however mounted in my doors, so theres a lot going on in there. Not to mention my doors are probably as deadened (if not more so then his).

My car is an 01" SE. Good eye.
I wish I could shell out the cash for the 2300. I spent all my monies already. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I have them crossed at 80Hz right now. They pick up well below even after they have been crossed. There is a nasty low note in Betcha Can't Do It Like Me by D4L that they pick up. I am going to have to try and figure out how to get rid of that. I totally agree that the mids reach their limit before everything else does. Some more seat time should take car of that though. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
Lets say Ive spent too much time in that door //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif Im sure you can cross them lower then 80hz, much lower. Ill let you figure out what sounds best to your ear though, in the end thats all its going to come down to.

I am slowly learning what they are capable of. These things can get very loud. Louder than any other set I have used in the past while remaining clear. I can't wait to see what they are made of after break in and the addition of some more power. I worked for a long time getting the Q's and the Contours matched up, the Contours just weren't able to keep up. They blended well though. I am sure these will after time.

Where do you have your crossovers and slopes set? What about your sub stage too? I wouldn't mind trying some new settings. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif Also, where did you put your tweeter?

Thanks again for your input. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

glad to hear they are coming along nicely, filtor... i expect you will come to love them after ~15 hours of play time; my germaniums didn't really come into their own for about that long too.

FYI, i run mine at 63hz/18db crossover... they can get quite loud with that setting without straining, but if you intend to make them really scream i'd go with an 80hz/18db xover. At 63hz the mid does reach the limits well before the tweeter. I found they sound better @ 63 than 80 but i don't have an extremely loud substage... 1 kicker 10 on a punch 100 @ 1/2 ohm.

Sounds like they definately need to be ran active considering how the mid reacts vs the tweet. Looks great, looks like those mids would be all the sub I could need lol.

Not necessarily active (though im sure they'd shine) but the true strength of the powerline CS comps is when you give each component its own frequency range to play.

What I mean is, if the tweeters had only 2.6khz-20khz to play, the mids only had 55hz-300hz to play, and you throw in a set of mids to cover the game between those two. Lets say a 4" set of Seas Lotus, each component of the 3way would be under a lot less stress, distortion would be minimal and you could probably crank the volume up 40% higher without any issues. Or just be a bit more aggressive with the gains.

2 Downsides to this though, 1 is you'd have to get 2 seperate amps to do this. A 4 way for the mids/highs and another to handle the mids (with more power of course). The 2nd is you'd have to find a place to stick those 4" (or whateve size floats your boat) mids.

Just to clear things up, those frequencies I listed are just #'s im throwing out there. Basically a starting point, you'd have to adjust it, tune it, ect.. to your liking to get it right.

Yeah, they do get loud. Remember though, they'll let you know the second you go too loud. They'll match up to the Q's better then the coutours were able to.

The slops I have mine set at //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif you're asking me to take that **** cover off //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif Ill get back to you on that, its been a while since I got in my trunk.

The tweeter, I stuck them...(see attachment) Figured its soft/silk dome (on axis) so it'll be aimed a bit more at me so I just had holes poked in my door panel and stuck em there. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif Plus that area looked bare & was flat so why not.

I look forward to it. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif I left them at 80Hz. I have a sufficient sub stage to deal with everything 80 and below. 2-Fi Q 12"s on a SS PCA2000D which is a loaner amp till my D61500.1 gets back from repair. I have been playing around with turning the subs off and getting to know the front stage w/o it. These things play very low. With the slope at 6db and the crossover at 63, they have no trouble in that area. I can only assume my lack of power is why I am not having the blending issue between the tweeter and mid. That might change today. I have also set the slope at 12db/octave and the crossover at 80 for tuning.

i doubt it is because of lack of power that is causing blending issues. its more likely the install or tuning if anything. since you are using the passives i think, you can't do much there besides possibly messing around w/ the different xover pts on the passives. you can also maybe eq it to blend much better.

That was my second choice for location. I just didn't want to cut or drill the door panel. Guess I have no choice. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif I am going to try and build out the sail panel to correct the tweeters center point and aim it correctly. Just something fun to do. Worst case scenario, I have to buy another set of sails and mount them on the door. I will keep experimenting till I find where I like them.

You don't have to go through the trouble of taking the covers off your amps. I was just wondering. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I am sure it will just take some time tuning and all.

Even were I mounted them at its not 100% aimed were I want them to. Its close enough for me not to care though. My amp covers, //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif Im trying to find a pic I took of their last settings before I put the covers back on. Figured im not going to remember, but now I cant find the pic.

First off, seems to me you have the specs backwards. Ignore peak, stick to RMS. Neither of them is going to do great at 60hz, that is really...
