At ECA, according to the AP guide, you're supposed to vent kicks directly out of the car, keeping the speakers face and vent on completely different planes.
Just venting them into the carpet would be the same as a normal kick, just with a FG membrane, possibly allowing for cancelation, etc?

Correct me if I'm wrong?

I was thinking AP like Mark Eldridges - http://www.carsound.com/features/eldridge_evolution.html

Regardless of how it "should" be done, I'm going to give this a great whirl and find out if it works //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I'll let you guys know

That's cool, let us know. I was just wondering as I have never seen it setup like that. I'm an inquisitive old fart //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif You guys are showing me some new things //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Gotta learn somehow //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

But yes - ideally you want to vent away from the driver....i'm sure your ears will tell you why once you fire it up for the first time

Cool ideas none the less

See that's where I'm coming from. I have always been told, in IB installs. To avoid serious cancellation issues. Every precaution must be taken to seal the front from the rear as completely as humanly possible. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

That is true for IB installs but in this case there is the entire aperiodic membrane that will be there to break up the rear wave.

plus the hole will be cut so that the "vent" of the enclosure will go right into the carpet under the kick panel.

i'm partially concerned about the size. might be way bigger than the last one //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif i think i'll see what i can do to make it at least a little smaller

Ahhhhhhhhhh, Ap not IB //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/banghead.gif.8606515f668c74f6de0281deb475b6fd.gif I gotcha now. Tuned Aperiodic membrane at rear of the enclosure. Like many SQ competitors have run in the past ( some may still don't really know ). Couple of years ago, a guy over on car sound had the sweetest thunder bird I have ever seen. Had two AP sub enclosures in the trunk made out of Lexan cylinders. Was very nice. Is there going to be any air space behind the membrane itself, or firing right directly into the carpet ? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Yeah there's going to be some airspace. The "volcanos" as req calls them (pictured in post 103 of this thread) will hold the speakers in the front and the AP membrane (fiberglass insulation) in the rear. A few screws around the perimeter of the lower MDF ring should hold the membrane in place.

Basically i will have an "inner" enclosure (the volcanos) and then the membrane, and then i will have the "outer" enclosure - basically the outer enclosure will be very similar to a sealed enclosure, but will have a hole somewhere in the back, opening right into carpet.

Got it? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

and everything outside of the blue on the bottom and/or right side is going to be the floorboards and carpet.

Yep, I understand how AP works, and differs from IB. I just mis understood. I am an old man, my reading comprehension lacks sometimes from many escapades as a child. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif I'm right with ya now. Should sound impressive. Can't wait too see //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

LOL dont blame your age.
Not really, just blaming the childhood years that I can't really remember to well //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

brian, you need to learn how to crop your images. all that extra white space is not needed lol //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
