Getting it from:

Refurbished with a 3 year warranty.

Subs:

2 12" Alpine Type Rs SWR-1242D in a Dual Ported Box.

Price:

$80 for first Sub+Box $90-$140 depending if I buy it new or used and where. Hoping I can find it locally for under $100 or on ebay used for under $100. Starting to seem like I might be stuck buying it new for $140 on ebay then being forced to break it in which is gay. HEY I just answered every other sub title for the Subs didnt I? The box is 37in x 16in and each sub area is 15in x 12in with a 2in x 16in opening that leads to the port. The port is 3in x 12in. Brother mentioned that the subs might not be getting enough Air. Dont think he is right though...

Extras:

Might be getting a capacitor depending on how much power system will take up and if my Alternator/Battery can handle it or not. Also will be buying some front speaker replacements to match the power of the Kenwood HU. Also will most likely be getting a 8" sub with a smaller amp to put under the dash in between the seats. Completely undecided on power output and the brands of both the Sub and Amp. Hell might just get a couple speakers and try my best to figure out somewhere in the front to put em without cutting into the side panels. Even then I wouldnt know how to go about trying to get em in their, make them stay, and make them sound good at the same time.

Date expected to start putting in car would be before October 1, 2009. After I get the subs. amp, HU, and the 4 replacement speakers in it I will start considering how to finish my setup. Have no intentions of ever upgrading. Wanting to get passenger window to work, passenger door lock to work, and an Alarm System installed before I install all of the audio crap. Or atleast just the door locks working...car supposedly already has an alarm system. I think the reason why I cant get it to work is simply because the Passenger door wont work. It is supposed to be set to where the Alarm becomes active while the car is off and locked using the electronic door locks. If a door is opened without using the door key then the Alarm goes off and will keep going off until the door key is inserted and turned. Thats just what the owners manual says anyways.

Extremely looking forward to setting the start of my system up. Its kind of a brother thing. My older brother had one when I was younger in his '88 Camaro and his Eclipse (after he sold the Camaro due to constant ****** issues). Always used to ride around with him simply to listen to it and well to be with him of course. Sucks how he has lived in PA for the past 10ish years leaving all of his family down here in KY. WELL aside from his wife and 4 kids. His wife stole him and took em to PA. Anyways yea...a decent system is something I have been wanting for a while.

But yea decent for a first system or not? Well even if you say it sucks I still wont change my mind lol. Took me a week or two to decide on how I want to go about starting the system out.

On a side note. I CANT WAIT to piss my neighbor off. Cant stand hearing his system on days I have to get up early to go to work. Maybe if its loud enough we can work out some sort of deal to where he wont play his system late if I dont play mine early //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif. My system should be hitting harder than his and will be a bit louder. He just has a couple 10s in his trunk with a cheapy 800 watt amp.

Btw...HAH you thought it was gonna be something big like the other threads didnt you!?!?!?!

Your build sounds a bit interesting, and I think it looks pretty solid. Not sure on the quality of those brands though, haven't used either of them. But I definitely feel ya on the whole brother thing. My brother's not lived here for...2 years recently, but he only lived here for about 3 months prior to that, so really it's been about 5 years, but I did get to experience his bass during that time period haha. Yeah...he probably started bumpin back in 2000ish so I just barely put my system in my car around May and I'm eighteen, so I totally know what you mean. Good luck with pissing your neighbor off too! Just pray he doesn't break into your car and stab your sub!

Pfft neighbors are too scared to do something that might piss one of us off. Kind of viewed as being psychos which is a good thing but can also be bad in some ways.

Also their supposed to be the better brands for a budget setup.

Is that a prefab box? Looks a lot like some of the prefabs around here. I actually had one for a little while and it looks just like that one in your pic. When I got my subs out of the prefab and threw 'em in my custom built box, there was a world of difference. You may want to consider building your own.

Here are some things you should HEAVILY consider reconsidering..

1. Capacitor = NO, get a 2nd battery if you're having voltage problems. Try the Big 3 as well.

2. Prefabricated box = NO, have one built or build one yourself.

3. You don't need another 8" up between your seats, that'd be dumb. If your midbass is lacking, get a better component set or component amp.

@inkfx I have no idea if its a prefab or not.

1. Why do people view Capacitors as being bad? I do know it can save a battery...and if I get a 2nd battery wouldnt that be a bit too much trouble to go through? Your looking at runnings new lines from the Alternator to the 2nd batteries and finding a safe spot to keep the battery. Dont really think its possible to run a series circuit from the Alternator to 2 batteries...could be mistaking though.

2. Meh like I said not sure if its a prefab or not...even if it is how would a custom built box sound any different? They are the same basic principles arent they?

3. Yea I thought about it a bit while at work about the 8" thing. Also thought about how I am going to go about installing some component speakers that would sound good. Going to try looking into just taking out the stock ones and maybe increasing the size of the hole a little and remounting some that are a little bigger. Really dont want to have to cut into the door panels...that would mean taking them off. Going to have to take the **** car to a shop to get the passenger window back on track as it is...simply because we cant find all of the **** bolts to take the panel off. Their are like 6 more that need to come off that are hidden somewhere.

Thanks for the input...thats one of the reason why I went ahead and posted how I am wanting to set it up before I actually go to do it.

Pics way too small, i can still read the words in your thread, //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
You sure? I can stretch it out a bit more to where you have to move the bottom scroll bar a lot more to be able to view the right side of the screen //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

Was too lazy to crop it lmao.

Trust me, you can run 2 batteries. I do it daily, along with thousands of other members on this site & thousands of others around the world.

And it IS prefab. You can tell.

& capacitors aren't good for your electrical. I'll find the thread.. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

X2 for every point mentioned here.

Capacitors are a bandaid for a bullet wound... They do NOT solve the actual problem of voltage drop and current draw. Also, building a box to spec for YOUR application is much better than those small volume, high tuned pre-fab boxes. And lastly, don't mix sub sizes. Adding an 8 sub up front won't so Jack shit unless you add a complicated network of crossovers which will be more expensive and time intensive setting up than just buying a quality component set.

Looks like a distro block.. single 1/0 wire in & two 4 gauge outs? or smaller.. dunno.

Yeah that box is definitely a prefab. Building a box to the subwoofers specifications will make it sound much better. Some subs need more airspace and different tuning than others. Which is a reason prefabs are bad. They are all built fairly small and are built with no regard to tuning. So building a box specifically for your subs will let them sound the best they can. I gained a LOT of output going from a small prefab like that to my 6.8cu ft enclosure I have now.
