My failed alpine install.

Ok, went to a local shop and picked up a pair of the new Alpine type r 6.5" components. So I take my door panel off for a sample fitting anddddd... They don't fit. So after about 20 minutes of cutting and fabrication, They fit. Time to run my kicker 16 awg hyperflex through the boot, into the doors. Simple aye? No. First off, the boot where it connects into the cabin is hardly possible to reach, I have over 20+ cuts on my hand from reaching in between the door and the panel. So I finally get the boot detatched and i start to run the wire... or so I thought. I go to disconnect the boot from the door end and BAM. It's a plug, with no room to run the wire around it or through it. The plug is what powers my windows and door locks. Needless to say, that really put a damper on my day. After a whole night of debating, there is nothing I can come up w/ that will work w/ out drilling a new hole in my door and my car which would require taking the door off which is not going to happen. Anyone have any ideas on what to do? The car is a 99' Honda Civic EX coupe. Don't start w/ the noob comments or anything because I have done this before in a couple other cars. I've never ran into the problem w/ out space like this.

And as far as cutting your hands, it happens. After one time running some 4ga. power wire through the engine bay and firewall in my cousins car, my knuckles looked like I was punching a brick wall or something.

Yea, I've slipped on a few 1/0 firewall holes and ripped the skin scraight off my knuckle. But my whole hand feels like I was attacked by fire ants or somethin, its totally numb. All these little cuts hurt 10 times worse then 1 bigger one

I can't stand running into roadblocks when doing installs. It happens EVERY TIME an install is done. You get an hour into the work and BAM, something happens that you have to modify.

I ran into the same thing in my Integra. I actually integrated into the factory wiring that ran into the door. I just hooked everything into the factory harness from behind the deck. Wasn't worth the time.

in your molex plug there will be places for pins/wires that are not used. just find a spot where there are a few blank 'holes' and drill a hole through the molex plug, pull your wires through there and you're set. please don't drill an extra hole in the side of your car. that's just ghey and ghetto. if you want to see a molex plug that's fun to work on, try running wires into the doors of a ford contour //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

i also just integrated my comp wires into the factory plug behind the radio and all is well. that is a lot easier to do than running new wires. if i want to i will try to run new wire but for now not gonna worry about it
