my dog got ran over :(

Whatever buddy. As if a comment from you matters:p

At least YOU keep it simple:p Unlike faulkton, who has to flame members to aquire any any sense of self worth. I dunno, maybe his mother did'nt hug him enough when he was growing up.:p Sob...:p You can't be a very happy person with that kind of attitude. sigh...

first off, any educated pit owner would have a bite breaker(some sort of stick to wedge between the jaw and pry its mouth open) scuffles happen, 2nd, pits and other "bully" breeds are no more un predictable than any other dog, they just need proper training, and an inteligent owner that understands the mentality of a dog(pack mentality). obviously you and your family or friends involved in this situation are not able nor responsible enough to own such dogs.as far as having pits around children, never had a problem with it. a person is much more likly to be attacked by a lab or dalmation before a pit statisticly speaking. the problem is not the unpredictability of the dog, but the lack of responsiblity by the owner of said dog.
The pit wasnt my dog. Never heard of a bite breaker (why the hell do you need one anyway if they're so predictable?). Just stating my opinion is all. I'm no professional on pits. Just callin it as I see it, based on my individual experiences. Anyone with a clue should be able to figure that out rather quickly. As far as the owner, my buddy's dad goes, He keeps her chained to an old VW bus behind the house. Treats her like a babydoll, dotes on her constantly. If you take issue with this, I'm sure he would be more than happy to discuss it with you. Maybe he would appreciate the help. Just trying to explain how freaky the situation was. I've had the chance to hang around with probably about 8 or 10 pits in my lifetime and get to know them on more than a passing basis. They were all realatively mild mannered, and 1 in particular I developed a particular amount of trust in. The other nine or so all seemed to have unpredictable and dangerous ticks. I remember one pit in particular, Damien, who I had gotten really comfortable with over the course of about 2 years. Bullshitting with his owner one day, when the little fat kid from next store (about 8 yrs old) came over to say hi. He got about 8 feet from that Dog before the teeth came out and that low pitched growl started. Basically Damien went into his "pre-kill" mode for no apparent reason. Observed this with the others as well in similar circumstances. Always thought it strange. I've owned various breeds of dogs over the years (labs, rots, terriers, etc). Just never experienced the same issues that I have with pits. I do remember hearing a ripping sinue sound when we finally got the dogs seperated mentioned earlier. Despite the terrible sound, Bill's dad took Gracy upstairs, washed out her jouwls, and I honestly couldnt find anything missing. Just a little bit of goey blood drool hanging from her mouth. Even after checking under her front lips. Lucky situation for all involved.

BTW, directly attacking somone's family and personal intelligence is very underhanded, especially without knowing all the facts. Tends to reflect a person's ignorance out in the open. I've been a member for years, and tend to ignore most insults (life's too short for god sakes:p). However when a stranger begins pulling punches below the belt, I'm more than happy to help them try to see the error in their ways. Simple as that.

as for the comment about not needing a bit breaker, they are needed because the dog does have powerful jaws, and if anything ever does happen, you will need to be able to open its mouth. kind of a just in case. I'm sorry about the comment about you and your family, i misread, i thought you had said it was your dog or your dads dog or something to that effect. I'm also sorry you've had bad experience with pits, they are agreat and wonderful breed, but the breed has a bad name based on people using them for the wrong purpose. far too many people breed for the wrong reasons, i should say that any pit that comes from a respectable breeder should not have any reason to growl or consider turning on human being unless provoked or lack of responsibility on the owners part and bad bloodlines.

I'm sorry if you didn't like what i said gymway. However, its quite irresponsible to not contain your animals, to allow them to run into the busy highway time after time. As a pet owner, supposedly capable of reason and logic, its your responsibility to take care of your pets welfare and safety. Accidents do happen, but as human beings with a long term memory, we are supposed to learn from those mistakes and prevent them from happening again. At some point it stops being an accident and becomes neglect.

Now that I see we've all come to an understanding, lets get back on topic.:p

As I said earlier, I'm glad your dog's okay man. Pretty traumatic experience I can imagine. I remember seeing my cocker spaniel shoot out from underneath a car going about 60 mph and do a barrel roll into a ditch. Scared the hell out of me. Looks like your dog has a pretty hard head though:p He should be fine. Poor guy walkin around with his blanket in a daze:p Makes you wonder how you have come out if you had gotten hit the same way:p

No biggie, just not used to seeing such hardcore stuff popping out at me like that. I'll admit I type fast and kinda sloppy when I post sometimes(mostly at work), so sorry if my wording gave you the wrong idea. Alot of the dogs I had growing up were farm dogs. We tried our best to keep them from the roads. Even got to the point where we kept them chained most of the night. Mostly they would be chasing somthing when they got hit. Havent had any at the farm though in a while Grandad's gettin too old to deal with it. Freaky thing was that when my cockerspaniel got hit (years later) when we were visiting, and he wasnt even outside. Had my hands full of groceries coming into Grandma's house. Little snot shot right between my legs and went straight for the highway. Little guy bit his tougne and was knocked silly, but thats about it.

Re Malico, my buddy's pit. I will say that she is a sweetheart. Kinda hard to play with her cause she pinches. I've just never seen a docile dog trip like that. Scared the shit out of us because we had such a hard time breaking up the fight with 3 grown men. We all love both dogs, and were terrified Mailco was about to take out poor Gracy. That little dog does have balls. Waltzed right out the door and up to Mailco. Went at her without missing step. Bill's dad dotes on them so much they developed a deep jealousy of each other. Bill was practically in tears afterwards. You are right in suggesting that he may need to be take a little more care as to make sure she is well enough contained. I'm just afraid some neighborhood brat is going to shoot her with a watergun, and she is gona break that chain. I saw her take off across the yard at the nighbors dog once pulling a 60lb chunk of train rail behind her just as fast as she could run. Amazing stuff. Might just buy a breaker for her and make sure Bill's dad knows whats up.

The only fight Trillville was ever in, the same thing happened. Another dog got out of the house, and ran straight at him. Jumped on him. Don't know why.

Also about the growling at the fat kid comment. Although he was just a kid, Dogs can sence things we can't. They know if a person is good or not. That is all that was about, I'm sure.

Again, thanks for all the thoughts and prayers. Also, I'me happy to say that he is breathing out of his left nostril some now, so he has 100% in the right, and i'd say around 60% in the left. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Know exactly what you mean. If there is one thing I have learned, it is that dogs more often than not, can make sound judgements based on insttinct beyond what we may be able to undertsnad. Re my earlier statements, I would like to make it clear that I am not your average tree hugging ******* with an agenda, that is, a person trying to sell people on the idea that pits are a doomed breed. Every instance has it's context and must be realized. As mentioned I am simply going off my personal experience. While consiquencial, should be taken with a grain of salt (You make your own informed decisions re). Other comments re make it obvious that there are some very dedicated pit lovers on this forum who would naturally take this discussion very seriously. This is somthing to be respected. In the same respect we gain knowleadge re car audio, constantly learning and building on our hobbies, it's nice to know that we also have the ability to gain knowleadge re so many other topics, utilizing members from all walks of interest. Regardless, I'm glad your dog is doing ok. Makes me chuckle to imagine some senior citizen trying to pull a pit-bull skull-dent from the hood of his Buick. Now that i'm officially intoxicated and content, I will wish you all a good night.

I hear that TSA is going to employ dogs, not to detect drugs or bombs, but to weed out the bad guys from the good guys based on their uncanny ability to sense the human character. If only someone would have thought of this before 9/11.

Worst name for a pet, ever....
Have to agree, is a little gangsta.

Glad to hear your dog is doing good and all is well. I dont know what I would do if my dog got ran over or if anything happenend to it period.

Nice looking dog as well, but the pick of you in the water with the dog. Ewwwwwwwwww, looks like a bunch of peeps just took a piss in it and told you to jump in. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

FRIDAY UPDATE!! 2 Days after the accident.

He is more perky today. Moving arond great. The spot on his head hardly moves anymore. I couldn't see it moving at all today, but i didn't look real hard. Also, he is breathing out of both sides of his snout now. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif I tok him for a ride earlier when i went to the bank. I'm thinking about taking him for a walk so he can see the outside, and maybe it will make him feel better.
