My Avalanche 18 setup

I have the ava 18 in a 4.5 cube sealed box w/ 1000w rms going to it(Lanzar Opti1400). VERY nice. I'm no expert, but over the years I've had all kind of subs. The 18 crushes them all. I can tell you the ava 18 has excellent construction, no obvious cheap parts. And heavy as a mofo.

Here's what I did w/ my system. I have 4 CDT CL-62's in place of the factory speakers, 150w rms to each. I had a small box w/ 2 10's that I was using before, put that in between the front seats and put an aftermarket tray on it. Fits perfectly. I crossed that over to 50-150hz w/ 400w rms, which works great. I'm a fiend for good midbass, and this is better than any midbass solution I've come across, lol! It also handles upper bass, see below for the reason. I have the ava 18 doing everything under 50Hz.

It's my opinion that the Ava 18 doesn't do upper bass very well, but handles sub-50hz freqs better than anything out there for the $. If you want an all in one sub(and if this will be your only sub), you'll probably be disappointed w/ the Ava 18. But again, for anything under 50hz, this is **** good. I've heard 2 Ava 15's can come close. I think that cost about the same as 1 18, but you would need more space. I'm sure someone else can comment on that. Keep in mind that this is a daily driver setup - I don't compete. Hope this helped someone.

not to hijack this thread but is it typical for 18" subs to be sub par in the upper bass frequencies? or could it play to a 75hz crossover point depending on the sub?
Dependent on the driver at hand...I've heard of 18" drivers playing as midbasses, although they weren't dedicated subwoofers.

when does bass become considered midbass? any of the subs ive owned were crossed over somewhere between 75 and 90 hz depending on the setup.
