my aq 10 has slapping sounds (like rocks)

my sdc 2.5 10 has a sound like a rock in the center of the sub at 45 to 55 hz. you cant hear it and it doesnt seem to affect performance street beating the lows 40 and below. The coils and sub are mint and have been ran on 300 rms it whole 2 year life. I had an aq 2.5 15 motor come unglued and got this 10 as a replacement under warrenty. now what? a recone? they are like 50 bucks by the time i get the glue and all. Ive been told the slap or tick is the spiders coming unglued but i cant see anything with it playing outside the box. the sound is there in free air and in the box. I shook the sub to make sure there wasnt a rock in it, its silent and solid. Whats the rattly vibration rock sound coming from my mint cond. sub, this is makin me want to go back to kickers.

Those subs have problems, the top spider becomes loose, and slaps, and sounds like sh1t.

i have the same sound in an sa-8..sounds like a loose rattling dust cap to me but its only sometimes and you can flick it and it sounds solid so my guess is a loose spider...i dont beleive theres an easy way to tell until it comes apart further...only so maybe things it can be...id guess a loose spider tho...you might be able to get some ca glue or epoxy and try to fix it before it gets worse?? if nothing else you would just be making the spider hold stronger....im no expert tho...

Those subs have to go through a complete and proper break in. If its not done correctly you get horrid suspension noise.

i would check ur dustcap is glued good first then check ur spider to basket and tripple joint.

aq and dd are NOT high excursion woofers and if you push them the spiders are the 1st thing to go...

i had one do that. the coil has come unwound and is making the noise. a recone is about the only thing u can do.

no dont think dust cap, its glued really well and i can thump it and its solid as well as the cone. must be the spiders, I dont think i will recone this anytime soon. I will keep playing it though. maybe throw a cover over the box so i cant hear the rattle, as its only on higher frequencies. lookin hard at the kicker cvx 10's.
