He's messing with you... What is true is that when under powering a sub, people tend to raise the gain to try and get all the power they can, generally resulting in a clipped signal. This can hurt your sub.

Congrats, well said. I have gains set by ear ATM but when I run the amp @ .5 ohm, DMM for sure.

PS. Don't blow that thing.
