Hi guys,

I understand the relationship of components relating to car audio(sub/amp/battery/HU), but i am interested in setting up a home system. I would like to choose music on my laptop, and have it play on dual JBLs. Either of the speakers on this website here interest me

i dont understand how everything would hook up //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

i would need:

-laptop

-amp?

-speakers

-cables?

im looking for that deep club bass. any help or suggestions would be great, since im a noob //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

To me it sounds like you want to be a dj. To answer your question you are going to make alot of power and noise. Hope your neighbors don't mind. So besides the speakers your going to need amp to power them like QSC. The QSC offers alot of different ways to connect speakers to it, and have grat power. Next you are going to need some type of pre amp or mixer so you can connect your computer to it and be able to control volume, bass, trable, or any other mids highs or lowes. once you get everything hooked up i know that they have lots of programs and hardware that you can upgrade to get better quality of music.

I hope that you understand that you can spend lots of money for this set up. $5000+thats if you don't have the lap top, software, or hardware . If you are just looking for something home theater or stereo like set up let me know, I can find something that would sound great with lots of bass. If you need more help post how much you are welling to spend and what is the end effect you are trying to accomplish? later

Thanks for your posts guys. for home system i meant for like a party scene. Mostly this would be for dorm / basement use, so perhaps JRXs would be overkill:eek:

I do have a laptop already, but nothing else. Perhaps i should just seek something that would produce a lot of bass? this means something that requires an amp? I'm not looking to spend a lot(more than 500 or 600), or for high quality equipment or music. just something that would be nice and loud at a party, and deep bass. (so like mediocre equipment)//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

You can build a decent MTM type system for less than $200 (for an example see the "TriTrix" on PE.com) and couple it with a good DIY subwoofer that would cost about $300 to build. That leaves you with $100-200 for a decent 2.1 stereo receiver. It should be more than loud enough-if you couple the MTM speakers with the sub you would not have to worry about the mid-woofers bottoming out.

A PA type system would be overkill for your application and the sound quality would suffer. The "deep club bass" is really just around 50hz for most PA rigs. With a good DIY sub you could get 25hz bass without a problem.

If your looking for an audio solution for house parties, I'm going to have to agree with Brian. A DIY solution will probably be the best and should'nt be too difficult with the instructions that can be found online. Partsexpress.com is an excellent source for DIY info.

If you don't want to spend time building your own speakers, let us know and I'm sure someone will be able to find a solution within your cost restraints.

ok thanks guys i will take a look on these sites. i couldnt find the tri trix section on pe.com. my laptop has the regular headphone jack by the way. Building my own setup sounds like a cool project. do you guys have any specific links i should look at? thanks again.

Alright I was browsing PE.com and put this together pretty quickly:

Stick this in a box about 5 - 6 cubes tuned around 30 hz. Use a textbook 3-way 2nd order crossover; you can build your own custom design or probably get by with one of these:

The tweeter is $15, the mid is $15, and the woofers are $20 each. Total driver cost per speaker would be $70. The pre-built crossovers are about $40 each. Wood and miscellaneous supplies may be another $30-40 each. That runs up to about $300 for a pair. About the same as a pair of Cerwin Vegas but will sound a lot better.

Then just hook it up to a stereo receiver, something like this Onkyo:

Here are the links to the drivers:

Almost like a cheaper version of the "Magna *** Laude". I think it should get pretty loud.

hey guys, i'm reviving this thread because i'm ready to make an investment, and have been doing a little more research. i have a budget of 600-700$. once again, looking for beginner gear, just bass pounding for parties. Also, at this point im not interested in "constructing" a sub. been looking at things like this

http://cgi.ebay.com/2-NEW-JBX-MBX-1520-15-2-Way-DJ-Audio-PA-Speakers_W0QQitemZ180235383366QQihZ008QQcategoryZ47094QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

that specific post worries me though.

this is the main search page i had up

http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?sofocus=bs&sbrftog=1&dfsp=32&catref=C6&from=R40&satitle=dj+speaker&sacat=-1%26catref%3DC6&sargn=-1%26saslc%3D2&sadis=200&fpos=01007&sabfmts=1&saobfmts=insif&ftrt=1&ftrv=1&saprclo=&saprchi=&fsop=32%26fsoo%3D2&fgtp=

Also, i have no idea what to look for for an amp. i'd like to use my laptop to select and play music.

Any ideas? thanks again guys

You don't want to buy DJ speakers unless you are DJ'ing.

And the ones you listed look pretty crappy anyways IMO. JBX sounds like the equivalent of Rockwood or Kenford in car audio.

Maybe, look for a pair of used Cerwin Vegas.

To be 100% honest don't buy PA speakers unless you are going to spend a decent amount of money ($700-$1200 per speaker). If you don't, you are just going to be buying JUNK, bottom feeding JUNK!!

I would go with Brian's recommendations or something like the Magna *** Ladi on the PE website.

Just a side note. The bump bump bump you hear in most clubs is caused by rather high levels of distortion. Mostly because they purchased shitty pro-audio speakers. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

Thats the easy part. Just get a minijack split to RCA. Minijack connection on one end just like Ipod headphones and on the other end 2 male RCA jacks. Run from your laptop to the recierers aux in or any other input and your set.

If you want more bass get a decent amplifier QSC, Behrenger, Crown and run the subwoofer output from the reciever to the amp and hook up some subs. Its pretty simple to do. I use a Behringer EP2500 to run my subs. Only thing I have thats different is I use a desktop with a dedicated sound card for the stereo.

Also you have to watch the amps. Some will only run at 8ohm when bridged and some will run 4 ohm. I also noticed that some will run 2ohm loads on a single channel and some will only run down to 4. Take some time to match your subs to the amp your buying just like in the car.
