music playing in passive crossover?!

i have no speakers hooked up from the crossovers, but i can clearly hear the music playing inside of them (its very metallic sounding)... i hit one of the crossovers and the amp went into protect... i have no idea whats going on could someone please help! the equipment im running is two sets of soundstream xsc 6.5 and the crossovers and placed in the glove compartment, with the amp under the driver's seat, thanks!

It's the inductors vibrating. You can put some goop on them to quiet them down.

i actually opened one and several of the zip ties holding them down were broken so i replaced them, thanks a lot for the info, i'll go check the others and see if that helps any

didnt work i pushed down on the inductors and tried to hand dampen them and i can still hear the music, no can has free bike =[

I've heard that with mine as well with no speakers hooked up. I would assume it's because the components in the crossover are absorbing the wattage instead of the voice coil of the speaker. It's probably not good to keep doing it to them. I don't think there is any sound coming out of them when the speakers are hooked up, but I guess that would be pretty hard to tell.

You may have to get creative and fabricate a small enclosure around the inductor and fill that with epoxy. I had a set of Soundstream crossovers do that to me years ago and that was my fix. Don't coat the resistors though.

yeah i just ended up hooking everything up and there is no sound when the speakers and connected! wtf =], thanks for the help
