virtual private network. Blocks your internet browsing from your (ISP)internet service provider, government, hackers etc... Its just a safety shield because some ISPs look down on pirating and can cut you off if they catch you repeatedly make that offense.

The reason you want an VPN when torrenting is so the riaa and mpaa can't track the network traffic back to your IP address
