it was designed for 5-20Hz sweeps, so to hit a 162 at something that low for an instant is still pretty good. if it could have held up for just a little longer i think it would have hit a 168, maybe..162 sounds about right. It wasnt record breaking, but still a pretty big number for its day.
I think the MTX logo was attached as a joke.. the main purpose was extreme SPL.. IIRC the giant woofer hit a very high spl number on a single positive stroke (which collapsed the bread truck!).. It also broke the frame of the driver.. This as claimed by the builders was due to an inability to control the electromagnet as intended.. you can thank alma gates...Its already been stated who designed and built it. IIRC, it was mainly suppose to be an advertising piece for MTX. It did in fact distort the structure of the van. My memory of it is a little sketchy, since the setup wasn't around very long due to the catastrophic failure of the vehicle.
Thats great!. I wanna see a video... of the falling apart part.from what i remember it manged to burp like a 162.x for like a fraction of a second before the whole fucking thing just fell apart
MTX was a sponsor for the install, iirc. Which is why they attached the MTX sticker to it (and the outside of the van). It was the model number they used, the Thunder 1,000,000, that was the joke.I think the MTX logo was attached as a joke.. the main purpose was extreme SPL.. Especially since as said above, it basically only survived a single stroke. lolThere would really be no great use for that woofer.
it was it's first time. cut it some slackit basically only survived a single stroke. lol
i have the 6500D amp and its a stout lil thing. did u have to mod yours to get it to play at 1 ohm?The oldest MTX amp I have is a 6500D (still US made)
Very solid amp and will drive a 1 ohm sub and it has not been molested.
I drove a 1508D2 for over a year with it.

A bit much for the 1508 @ 1 ohm as well. It never had issues @ 1 ohm loads as well.
a buddy has 2 of these. the black one and an identical white one. will either/both of them run 2 ohm mono at about 300 watts and live?this is a pretty good MTX amp for what it is....

You would be wrong homes....IIRC they had 60kw of power from crown pro audio amplifiers to power it... the magnet was an electromagnet and had to be powered separately...
