MTX Audio have big ones

I've never heard a sub that produces fart sounds as bass. Oh... farts have different lows and highs to! Now I get it.And what about the components comparison?

Completely useless aswell.

If they wanted to show anything other than marketing propoganda, then they would have posted information that actually matters, such as BL/Cms/Le linearity, distortion performance, decay plots, etc.

But they didn't. They picked some general design differences that they felt they could BS as to why it makes them better.

at the same time alot of people don't care about those things and just want something big in the trunck... which is probably the majority of mtx- sub owners, still the comparisons really don't do justice... but i do like the components they have they aren't bad at all

EDIT: i agree with squeak... just to make myself clear

Wow I have a good story for this one...I actually emailed MTX about their SPECS ARE BEST TO COMPARE SUBS BS" and it struck a cord with them and I got an email back from John Ivey himself, who owns MTX. A few emails were sent back and forth as I argued with him that you cannot compare car audios specs vs specs. Companies rate different, subs perform different with different amps and different boxes etc. He insisted specs are best, so I asked him how come you rarely see MTX in Iasca comps, SPL comps, or Magazine tests? He said that they did that and it did not benefit them??? Then he ended up calling me and was quite angry about it, really nice guy, but wow I pissed him off.

I had a customer who kept blowing their 7500s, and they called MTX about it and MTX told them that we installed their subs with copper speaker wire and that was why they were not working properly, yet Streetwires, an MTX company uses copper speaker wire??? They had no comment on that.

Finally, did you notice how close the new MTX amps and Kicker ZX amps looks?

LONG STORY SHORT MTX IS NOT A REPUTABLE COMPANY ANYMORE

and yes I realize that I do have two MTX amps and it bothers me everyday.

Wow yeah, this was old news 2 years ago. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

IIRC JL's official response was to publish the same camparative specs versus the 12 and 13" W7. And yes, the W7 spanked the 9500 totally. Gee, wonder why MTX only compared the 10" version.

Subject: RE: MTX website.

First off I am not trying to insult you guys, many of your products are

great, its just the way you are presenting them on your website seems to be

very misleading to new coming enthusiasts.

How is that? (BTW when we use VD online it is how much air that speaker can move not how much space it takes up inside the enclosure)

I work at Circuit City installing car audio and having been installing and

selling car audio for over five years now.

Great so we are on the same team!

The reason is that you cannot

just present specs and instantly say your products are better, if you want

to impress your customers, then buy a JL or Solo X and install them in their

proper enclosures and power them properly and then put them up to a true

comparison test. We have MANY MANY TIMES

Or send them to car audio magazine, they do great reviews

and personally I have never seen an MTX products on there.

The tests are based on what a listener hears and are up to interpretation. Specs are the only true form of measurement. We used to have all our products rated but you have to pay for advertising to get good results. Trust me. Our subs were always #1 because we advertised heavily in those magazines. The truth is that Car Audio is no longer a life style on its own. So advertising in car audio magazines does not help Circuit City sell car audio. We would rather be in Maxim or on Pimp My Ride. I know you are a true Car Audio enthuses (as I am) but there are not many of us left.

I am not sure why you do not like MTX. Maybe you worked for an independent dealer before going to Circuit City? Well I have to tell you that we are a good group of guys and we are only trying to fight to get the credit our products deserve. I have a sub that is better than a W7 and Solo X and I can prove it! Should I not get credit for it? Should I keep letting people think that JL is better? We are a family owned company. I am 28 years old and running the MTX brand now. I could have cashed out and made product not as good as JL and made much more money BUT I LOVE MTX and plan on keeping MTX the best Car Audio Company ever.

As for judging speakers by reputation is ten times better than by specs

alone. Reputation in high end car audio is huge because if your friend

suggests a certain speaker or system and you end up really liking that, then

you will suggest it to another friend and so on. And that way you know

somebody who has experience with that product and you have heard that

product and then you can feel confident you are getting something good

rather than just comparing specs and making decisions based entirely off

that. And companys's specs are often very different and rated with

different skews than the next.

A reputation in our industry is build by word of mouth. That word of mouth is started by the dealers. JL has been a push line at the independent dealers for so long they have built up its reputation. We give the specs on our website to try to help your sales people combat the nothing that JL products are the best and nothing else is as good. If the roles were reversed and Jl was in Circuit City and MTX was only in independents then those independent dealers would be pushing MTX not Jl. It is both of our jobs to combat that mentality so we both can sell more products. MTX product is as good if not better than JL. We have to convince your customers that or we both lose.

Also, I heard MTX is getting dropped by Circuit City because we are picking

up Eclipse, is that true?

Not at all. New products are shipping to you as we speak.

If you like a speaker based on its marketing than you will like MTX a lot more at the end of 2006. If you like a speaker that has a good reputation because it is a push brand at independent dealers than you should think about working for an independent dealer.

I would still love to talk to you on the phone.

Thank You,

John Ivey

Ok I see where you are coming from, but they are practically lying to potential customers? That is not fair to people who do not know about car audio and all they see is specs better than another companies, yes it benefits MTX in that way, but not to the customer. And yes he was very patient, and as was I, I never swore at him or insulted him or his company. He is a great guy, but I think they need to rework their marketing strategies.

Its marketing in a free market society, its gonna be slanted towards their products... that's just common sense. It happens every day in virtually every other market on the planet, why not this one? Yes, the MTX ad is misleading (as I voiced my displeasure earlier), but its not exactly untruthful. Its just one company's marketing people building up their product against their competitors based on factual yet biased data. Nothing new there, no reason to start a lynch mob or anything.
